Here at Ardnamurchan Natural History Visitor Cantre, we have tried to harness our own passion and love of the natural world in order to create a truly memorable, interactive experience for both young and old alike. Our aim is to bring visitors closer to nature and to fuel their desire to go out and discover its riches for themselves. Oh and yes, there's a café - with hot and cold food - as well as

home made cakes to die for! Just a fantastic range of quality crafts and gifts - many of them produced locally and many of them relating to the wonderful natural world you'll discover here. There's also an excellent range of outdoor clothing - just in case the normally hot and dry weather lets you down whilst you are here!

The ongoing fire in the northern Cairngorms is being driven south on strong winds. The fire is approaching the northern part of Mar Lodge Estate, and therefore as a precaution, we are closing the car parks at the Linn of Dee and Linn of Quoich.

The fire is still a significant distance away, and there is no immediate risk to buildings or property on Mar Lodge Estate.

However, given that this is a serious fire, and that many people choose to walk through the Cairngorms from these car parks, particularly at weekends, we have taken this decision as a precaution, to protect the public, and to help facilitate any emergency response, should it be required.

We are delighted to announce the publication of 'Wander West Ardnamurchan'. Our book (RRP £8.95) is currently available from West Coast Crafts and Gifts based in the Kilchoan Community Centre and at the Natural History Centre in Glenmore. It should also be available from the lighthouse shortly.

The book takes you through many of the historic sites located across the Ardnamurchan Pen*sula, providing details, photos and interesting historical context.

We are proud of it and hope you'll want to buy a copy and enjoy reading it. Thank you to the Wander West Ardnamurchan project for enabling this publication to become reality and to all involved for their hard work in collating this lovely summary of the incredible history of people living and working here for thousands of years.
