⛳ SEFTON LABOUR HELPING DELIVER A LASTING LEGACY FOR OUR COMMUNITIES

Sefton Labour is helping ensure that The Open at Royal Birkdale leaves a lasting legacy for local people, with The Open Legacy Fund supporting community projects across Sefton.

Here are some of the projects benefiting from this investment:

💚 Supporting families in hardship: Compassion Acts will establish a Mini Multibank in Southport, providing essential household items to people who need them while reducing waste.

🌻 Creating accessible green spaces: Southport Sports and Community Centre will develop the Forget Me Not Community Garden, with accessible pathways, sensory planting and food-growing areas, particularly benefiting people living with dementia and their carers.

☀️ Backing our Scouts: Solar panels at Waterside Lodge will help Sefton North Scouts reduce electricity bills, freeing up money for activities and equipment.

🚐 Supporting Bootle’s communities: Brunswick Youth and Community Centre will invest in an electric minivan to support food deliveries, youth activities and community services.

🌱 Bringing people together: Gateway Collective’s Growing with Gateway project will use community gardening and shared meals to tackle isolation, develop skills and provide nutritious food.

❤️ Supporting those affected by the Southport tragedy: A grant to Merseyside Community Foundation will help local charities supporting those affected.

Thank you to The R&A for supporting these projects and helping create a positive legacy from The Open at Royal Birkdale.

A statement on behalf of Sefton Labour Group.

It is with great sadness we share that our dear friend and colleague Helen Duerden has tragically passed away. Helen suffered an aneurysm and sadly passed away on the afternoon of Thursday 15th October.

Helen was recently married on September 19th to Mike. She was the kindest, most caring person anyone could wish to meet.

Helen was always full of energy, joy and passion for the work she carried out as a Labour Councillor in Netherton North ward, and as a Volunteer Development Coordinator working at Sefton Community Voluntary Sector.

Helen was elected to Sefton Council in June 2024 and worked tirelessly on behalf of her residents. Helen served on a number of committees and was Labour’s representative on Sefton Hospitalities Operations Limited. Helen was determined to support our most vulnerable by giving training and job opportunities to local people. Her professionalism and dedication made a significant difference to many people’s lives.

Sefton Labour Group are so very proud to have had the opportunity to know and work with Helen and to have her as a big part of our Labour family. We are proud to call her a friend and colleague. She will be sadly missed by us all.

We would like to pass on our sincere condolences to her husband Mike, her Mum Carol, her three children, her sister Rachel, her brother Asa and the rest of her family at this devastating time.

The family have asked for privacy at this very sad time.

🏆 A very proud moment for Sefton!

We are absolutely delighted that our Team Around A Baby initiative has been officially recognised with a North West Association of Directors of Children’s Services (NWADCS) Impact Award!

This prestigious award highlights the incredible commitment, care, and passion of our children’s services colleagues and partners. By working together, they ensure that local families get the right support exactly when they need it most.

Team Around A Baby is a shining example of our vision for family support in Sefton:
• Starting early to give babies the best foundation
• Building on strengths within the family unit
• Uniting services seamlessly around a child's needs

❤️ While winning an award is a fantastic milestone, what matters most is the positive, lasting difference this dedicated work is making to the lives of our youngest residents and their families.

🟩 While the Greens in Waterloo are in disarray, Labour is getting on with making sure Waterloo is getting the care and attention it deserves.

🌹 Seaforth and Waterloo needs more, deserves more, and under Labour would get more.

🫂 Sefton is preparing to introduce a major new approach to family support, helping children, young people and families get the right help earlier and closer to home.

👪 The new Families First approach will bring services together so families can access support more easily, with one family, one plan and one lead practitioner helping to make sure people do not have to repeat their story to different services.

🤗 New neighbourhood teams will work alongside schools, Family Hubs, health services and community organisations, making support more joined-up and easier to access.

🏫 This builds on the significant progress already made in Sefton’s children’s services, which have been rated Good by Ofsted.

❤️ Sefton Labour is working to ensure every child and family can access the support they need, when they need it. We are helping prevent problems from escalating and giving children the best possible start in life.

The transformation will help create a more attractive and modern shopping area for Ainsdale residents and businesses

This is another example of Sefton Labour working hard to invest in our communities, support local businesses and improve the places we’re proud to call home.

🌳🏘️ We’ll keep working to make sure Ainsdale gets the investment it deserves.
