Great to be out in Makerfield today campaigning for Andy Burnham and Labour.

It was good to be there with Gareth Lloyd-Johnson, alongside three brilliant university students — Lewy, Comrade, and Jake — from Bath and Manchester University.

They are studying history and politics, and it was inspiring to see young people dedicating their time, getting involved, and playing their part in a Labour campaign that truly matters.

This by-election is about more than just one seat.

It’s about supporting Labour values.

It’s about listening to working people.

It’s about standing up for communities that need strong, practical Labour voices.

Andy Burnham has always understood the North, public service, and the importance of putting people first.

That’s why it was a real pleasure to be out supporting him today.

DELIVERING ROAD IMPROVEMENTS ON WADDICAR LANE

Many residents have spoken to us about the condition of the pedestrian crossings and road surface on Waddicar Lane.

Since the election, we've been working with Sefton's highways team on these issues and I'm pleased to see the crossing markings repainted this week.

We've also secured a commitment to resurface sections of Waddicar Lane between Chestnut Walk and Hayes Drive, and between Rainbow Drive and Rock View as part of Sefton Council's 2026/27 Highways Programme.

We'll share further updates when dates for the resurfacing works are confirmed.
