RLC Institution The RLC Institution exists to promote professional excellence among the soldiers and officers of the corps.

The Royal Logistic Corps (RLC) Foundation was established in April 2015 (renamed RLC Connect in Oct 2018) with the purpose of promoting professional excellence within the RLC, with the emphasis on creating strong professional relationships with organisations from the wider logistics community from within industry, academia, professional bodies and professional media. Up until recently the RLC Foundation was part of the RLC Association Trust, a registered charity. After 31 years of dedicated service and driven by a change to charity law, the RLC Association Trust has successfully transferred its operations to become The RLC Charity, now established as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). In parallel, the RLC Foundation, as an integral element of the new charity, has also been required to restructure and change it's title to comply with Charity Commission legal guidance. Accordingly, the current RLC Foundation Board has become the Professional Excellence Committee of the RLC Charity, with a professional membership organisation, now rebranded as RLC Connect. This transition strengthens our ability to support the RLC family, our industry partners and academia, providing a more robust and flexible framework to continue our essential work. The move to a CIO offers enhanced legal protection and efficiency, ensuring that we can focus more resources on delivering valuable support where it is needed
Its purpose is to:

* Provide a focus for the RLC'S professional engagement with external logistics organisations from Industry, Academia, Professional bodies and the professional media and facilitate engagement with them.
* Engage with professional organisations and academia to coordinate and expand existing Accreditation Certification and Educational Courses for the benefit of the RLC soldiers and officers across all RLC Trades.
* Promote exchanges of ideas, experiences and concepts between RLC soldiers and officers and the appropriate civilian/commercial organisations.
* Provide a focus for the development of thought leadership of value to both military and civilian logisticians. Method - RLC Connect activities include:
* Sponsoring, facilitating and organising events of interest to RLC soldier and officers and civilian logistics organisations. These may be large seminars, smaller, 'round-table' events with expert speakers.
* Publication of thought leadership; this may be achieved through a variety of media - The RLC Review, white papers and may include web hosted activities such as webinars.
* Sponsoring competitions aimed at stimulating professional discussion and debate.
* Organising prizes and awards that recognise military logistics and professional development excellence.
* Administering other military logistics awards on behalf of other entities which support the purpose of the RLC Connect.

The RLC Institution is delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Richard Crane MBE as our new Deputy Director.

Richard brings with him a wealth of military and industry experience, together with an extensive network across the serving and retired RLC community, wider Defence, and our industry partners. His strong links across industry will bring significant value to the RLC Institution as we continue to strengthen our relationships, broaden our reach and develop the support we provide to the Corps. Richard’s initial focus will be on growing RLCi membership, while supporting the Director at the strategic level as the Institution continues to develop and grow. This will help ensure that the RLCi remains well placed to support Line of Operation 4 (LOO4) of the RLC Strategy to 2030.

I am pleased to share, that following a 43-year military career serving worldwide across a wide range of operational environments—and the honour of being appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in recognition of my service—I have been selected to take up a new post within the Royal Logistic Corps Institution (RLCi).

My career has given me the privilege of working alongside exceptional people, adapting to diverse challenges and gaining experience that I now look forward to bringing to this next chapter. I am excited by the opportunity to contribute to the continued development of the RLCi, strengthening collaboration between the Corps, industry and academia, and helping to promote innovation, professional excellence and the exchange of ideas.

DELIVERING LOGISTICS ADVANTAGE THROUGH TECHNOLOGY EVENT - TUESDAY 13 OCTOBER 2026

On Tue 13 Oct 27 Regt RLC and PA Consulting co-hosted an event at St Omer Barracks, Aldershot for the RLCi, with over 70 delegates attending.

The aim of the event was to encourage dialogue and discussion around some of the key themes relating to 'delivering logistic advantage through technology'. The key focus area was the challenges faced in the operational area of divisional logistics - the challenge area for 101 Operational Support Brigade and 27 Regt RLC.

A series of scene setting briefings in the morning, focussed on logistic challenges in the supply chain, evolution of doctrine and developing concepts/ capabilities. Afterwards we visited capability stands which showcased autonomous vehicles, digital countermeasures and a briefing on protection and deception.

After an excellent buffet lunch we divided in 4 workshop teams each one looking at a particular logistic challenge. These workshops addressed the challenges faced by the military, how they are tackling those problems, but importantly then, how industry faces similar challenges, or could leverage it's capability, innovation and technology in ways that could either influence, or directly be used in the military context.

This was an excellent opportunity to bring our industry partners, invited guests and the military together to collectively solve/address some future logistic challenges. We are most grateful to 27 Regt RLC and PA Consulting for hosting this event.

Army Am******on Technical Community and Institution of Explosives Engineers Sign Memorandum of Understanding to Strengthen Professional Collaboration.

The Army’s Am******on Technical community and the Institution of Explosives Engineers (IExpE) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), strengthening their longstanding relationship and reinforcing a shared commitment to professional development, engineering recognition and collaboration across the military and civilian explosives sectors.

The signing took place on 12 October 2026 at the Officers’ Mess, Worthy Down, the home of the Royal Logistic Corps. Facilitated by the Royal Logistic Corps Institution (RLCi), the agreement was signed by Brigadier Darren Fisher MBE, representing the Army’s Am******on Technical community, and Mr Martin Sime, President of the IExpE and His Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Explosives. Mr Richard Crane and WO2 Danny Maxwell represented the RLCi.

The partnership will provide much greater opportunities for military explosives specialists to achieve professional recognition, access continuing professional development, and engage with the wider explosives engineering community. It will also strengthen the exchange of knowledge and expertise between Defence and industry, supporting both operational capability and career development both inside and outside of the military.

Brigadier Fisher explained: “The importance of the Institution is not simply the academic opportunities it provides, but the professional engineering pathways now available to our am******on technical personnel. These allow individuals to gain recognition for their skills and experience throughout their military careers, and as they transition into civilian employment. Equally important is the opportunity to draw upon the expertise of the wider explosives engineering community. As we prepare for the challenges of future conflict, closer collaboration between Defence and industry will be essential in developing capability, sharing knowledge and making the best use of our collective expertise.”

The agreement supports the Royal Logistic Corps Strategy 2030, particularly its commitment to strengthening partnerships with professional institutions, industry and academia. It also recognises the importance of ensuring that military training, qualifications and experience are aligned with nationally recognised professional standards, including pathways towards Engineering Technician (EngTech), Incorporated Engineer (IEng) and Chartered Engineer (CEng) registration.

Mr Sime welcomed the agreement, stating: “We are delighted to build upon our existing relationship with the am******on technical trade and provide further opportunities for individuals to develop and demonstrate their professional competence. Professional recognition provides a benchmark that is valued both within and beyond the military. It allows employers to understand the skills, knowledge and experience that individuals bring, while ensuring that military explosives specialists are recognised as professional equals within the wider engineering community. This partnership is also about sharing knowledge. There is an enormous amount that military and civilian explosives engineers can learn from one another, and we look forward to strengthening those connections.”

The MoU represents a significant step towards closer collaboration between the Army’s Am******on Technical community and the IExpE, supporting professional recognition, knowledge exchange and the development of the next generation of explosives engineering professionals.

A fantastic effort from our Army Cadets from H Company, alongside the Battalion Cadet Regimental Sergeant Major, who recently attended the Belfast International Tattoo to support SSAFA through bucket collections.

The cadets represented the Battalion with pride and professionalism throughout the event, helping to raise much-needed funds for SSAFA and supporting the important work they do for serving personnel, veterans and their families.

Notice to all Members including retired, serving (Regular & Reserve).

The RLC Institution (RLCi) Awards Dinner will take place at the Officers’ Mess, Worthy Down Camp on Wednesday 25 November 2026. This is our final event of the year and is an opportunity to recognise and reward those individuals and teams; military, corporates and most importantly our soldiers who have achieved success and contributed to logistics development in line with the objectives of the RLC Institution.

We are truly honoured that our Awards Dinner will be hosted by the Master General of Logistics and Director of Personnel, Major General JEA Chestnutt CBE. Invitations have also been extended to our honorary members, Chief Logisticians of the Navy and RAF and Chief of Defence Logistic and Support (CDLS). We again are honoured to have the Corps Colonel as the Master of Ceremony.
