On Saturday 10th October, we will be holding a Friends of the Greenway Gathering. This will see us meeting at the start of the trail, walking along, sharing ideas and discussing the future volunteering plans for the Greenway.

Afterwards, everyone is warmly invited to the Bullfield Community Orchard for some local freshly pressed apple juice. The orchard, just a five minute walk from the Greenway, is holding its annual apple pressing day and is another great community asset.

After listening to feedback, improvements have been made to the surface of the greenway, particularly around the area of Greensfield Bridge.

We hope this surface improves accessibility for all users and we always appreciate feedback about the greenway.

Again, many thanks to RB Contracting Ltd for their skill and support.

A massive thank you to Robbie of R.B Contracting who has carried out some essential maintenance on the Borderline Greenway.

Vegetation management in the recent climate has been a challenge and we have to take into account public safety, biodiversity and the impact on drainage systems.

This work will allow the community to continue to enjoy the greenway.

It is great to see the announcement by the Government of the Β£4.5 billion active travel strategy over the next five years.

With benefits such as reduced congestion, better public health and strengthened local economies, projects like the Borderline Greenway will be at the heart of the community.

The directors of the Borderline Greenway CIC would like to thank Ted Liddle and the Cycling Cranks for their generous donation of Β£1,000 towards the maintenance and upkeep of the greenway.

The Cycling Cranks have been avid supporters of the greenway for a long time and also champion the opening of other disused railway lines in Northumberland as active travel routes.

Borderline Greenway CIC relies on the support of the community and we are hopeful that further progress can be made to enhance the greenway for all.

A year ago today on Saturday 29th March 2025, on the 60th anniversary of the railway line closure, the first completed stretch of the Borderline Greenway was officially opened by the High Sheriff of Northumberland and the Mayor of Alnwick.

This was a culmination of a lot of hard work, skill and effort from volunteers, councillors and the local community.

The directors of the Borderline Greenway continue to develop plans to build on this success and open up more of the disused line as an active travel route through the beauty of the North Northumbrian countryside.

A big thank you to Cheviot Countryside Contracting who donated a gate to replace the one that was vandalised over the winter.

These gates are there to prevent animal incursion on to the path and the surrounding areas.

All the directors at the Borderline Greenway are grateful for this excellent bit of community work.
