Members of Alnwick Town Council have awarded a £1000 grant to the newly formed Judo Spirit Academy.

This is the first affiliated Judo club in Alnwick for many years and its founder Joe Savage explains what the grant will be used for: “We will use the majority of the grant to cover our venue hire for the next few months and the remainder will go towards ancillary equipment and the purchase of spare suits for new members. We currently offer classes for youngsters age 5+ and we also run parent and child classes. Judo is a great sport to become involved with – as well as fitness and defence skills it teaches discipline and respect. It’s also great fun – why not come along and give it a go!”

Members of the club are pictured with Joe (far right) and Alnwick Town councillors Stacey Harding, Jenny Garside and Sam Frost.

The Judo Spirit Academy meets at Willowburn Sports and Leisure Centre and can be contacted through their social media channels or via email at [email protected]

𝗛𝗲𝗹𝗽 𝘂𝘀 𝘀𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗔𝗹𝗻𝘄𝗶𝗰𝗸!

Our play areas are an important part of community life, providing spaces for children and families to play, socialise and stay active.

We would like to hear from local families and youngsters about children’s play facilities in Alnwick as we want to understand how existing play areas meet the needs of children of different ages and abilities and what our residents of all ages would value in the future.

Share your ideas with us and let’s work together to create play provision that is accessible, inclusive and fun for everyone!

At this stage, we are gathering views rather than consulting on a predetermined design. The survey will just take a few minutes to complete and we ask that you answer as many questions as you can.

Families are invited to submit the full survey which can be accessed here: https://tinyurl.com/anyevz2k
And here is a link to a student version for young people to complete: https://tinyurl.com/yh7n6cx5

Please share the survey among your friends and contacts - we want to hear from as many residents as possible, whether they regularly use our play areas or not.

Closing date: November 30th.

Representatives of Alnwick in Bloom and Alnwick Town Council were delighted to visit the residents of Robert Adam Court to present them with awards collected at the recent Northumbria in Bloom ceremony.

Liz Adams and Janet Pibworth gave residents the Gold certificate and glass trophy they received for winning the Best in Class in the Residential Communities category.

Judges commented: “The garden at Robert Adam Court combines contractor maintenance with impressive resident effort to create a welcoming environment which encourages socialising. Together, these dedicated joint efforts create a thriving, peaceful green sanctuary that significantly enhances daily life for the entire community.”

Town and County councillors have thanked the public for attending the Northumberland County Council Community Partnership drop-in at the Lindisfarne Centre yesterday.

Councillor Gordon Castle was pleased with the response saying "It was a very successful drop-in event with much interest from the public. There were ten stands and each one reported good feedback and positive involvement from the 60 or so visitors who came. It is definitely the right format for all Community Partnership meetings where public participation is encouraged, and I thank those who gave up their time to attend."

Alnwick Town Mayor, Councillor Geoff Watson said that the event was a good source of information about the upcoming developments in the town; "I was delighted to see so many people turn out for the drop-in event which featured information on the major projects taking place in Alnwick over the coming months. The delivery of these projects will transform the town centre and make Alnwick an even better place for residents and visitors."

Did you know that Alnwick Playhouse hosts regular relaxed and dementia-inclusive cinema screenings on the last Monday of every month at 2:00 PM

On Monday ((September 28th) they are screening Toy Story 5 – what fun!

This project was started with the involvement and feedback from those living with a diagnosis, and film choices have been discussed and chosen by them. All families are welcome, and any nursing home or residential home can attend at no cost.
The cost is £5 for one person, the other goes free.

The North East Mayoral Strategic Authority (NEMSA) want to hear your views on the proposed Bus Franchising Scheme. Your feedback will help inform the final decision on how bus services are run in the North East.

NEMSA say: We want to know what you think about our plans for better bus services, so we make the right decisions for local people.
Buses are by far the most used public transport in the North East – people made 115 million journeys in 2024/25 for work, school, health appointments and all sorts of other reasons.
But the bus network has seen long-term decline. Over the past 15 years, passenger numbers and the number of miles operated have both fallen significantly, meaning fewer routes, less frequent services and reduced access in some areas.
We’ve heard from thousands of people about what matters most for transport, and we’re now consulting on whether a different approach - known as bus franchising - could create a better bus network for people across the North East.
Whether you use the bus now or not, or might do so if the service changed, we’d like to know what you think of our plans.
