Friday 7th August 2026 –Winsford Town Mayor Disco Bingo Fund Raiser

I was delighted to be invited by the Mayor of Winsford, Pauline Fitzsimmons, to attend her fundraising Disco Bingo event at Meadow Bank Social Club. The occasion brought people together for an enjoyable evening of entertainment while supporting two important local causes. Funds raised during the event will go to the Buddy and Befriending Scheme and Hebden Green Specialist School. Both organisations provide valuable support within the community, making the evening not only entertaining but also especially worthwhile.

The atmosphere was lively from the outset, with plenty of dancing to well-known music from the 1980s. The main attraction was eight rounds of bingo, which kept everyone engaged throughout the evening and added a friendly sense of anticipation and competition. I came very close to winning and was left waiting for just one number, but unfortunately it never appeared. Guests were encouraged to embrace the 1980s theme by arriving in fancy dress, and many entered the spirit of the occasion with colourful, creative and nostalgic outfits. A prize was awarded for the best costume, adding another enjoyable element to the evening and giving everyone an extra reason to join in the fun.

The winning costume was a wonderfully colourful 1980s hip-hop ensemble, complete with a retro tracksuit, bucket hat, oversized gold medallion, sunglasses and a classic boombox radio-cassette player. Every detail captured the decade’s bold, playful style, making the outfit perfectly suited to the disco theme and a firm favourite among the guests. For those too young to remember…..Boomboxes, sometimes known as “ghetto blasters”, were large portable radio-cassette players that became an enduring symbol of 1980s youth, hip-hop and street culture. Often carried on the shoulder, they allowed people to take their music wherever they went and became one of the decade’s most recognisable accessories. By the mid-1980s, another oversized piece of technology—the early mobile phone—was beginning to compete for attention.

Although I did not take home a prize, it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening and a wonderful opportunity to support two deserving causes.

Monday 20th July 2026

I was honoured to attend the collation of the Reverend Joe Luke Smith at St Mary Magdalene's Church on Monday 20th July 2026, as he became Vicar of St Mary Magdalene’s, Alsager and St Philips at Hassall Green – the Pink Church.

Joe has moved to Alsager from Cardiff, with his family, where he served as a priest at St John the Baptist and as chaplain to Cardiff University.

The service was led by Mark, the Bishop of Chester, accompanied by the Archdeacon of Macclesfield. St Mary's is proud to be an inclusive church that welcomes everyone, regardless of religion and I found the service to be down-to-earth, uplifting, and thought-provoking.

I also had the opportunity to say a few words, welcoming Joe, and his family to the Alsager community on behalf of residents and the Town Council.

St Mary's is one of Alsager's renowned buildings of architectural interest. This splendid Grade II-listed church, built between 1894 and 1898 by acclaimed architects Austin and Paley, is celebrated for its Gothic Revival red sandstone architecture and is spectacular inside and out.

🎭 Saturday 11 July. Alsager Community Theatre (ACT), Much Ado About Nothing – William Shakespeare 🎭

I was privileged to be invited to this wonderful evening performance of Much Ado About Nothing and produced by Alsager Community Theatre (ACT), a registered charity and directed by Victoria Vorwerg.

A special thank you to the company for the invitation and warm hospitality. The production was staged at the prestigious National Trust property Little Moreton Hall, the famous topsy-turvy Tudor house just a few miles from Alsager. The courtyard setting, framed by the hall's beautiful black-and-white Tudor architecture, provided the perfect backdrop for Shakespeare's timeless comedy of misunderstandings, love, deception and reconciliation.

The talented cast brought the story to life with energy, confidence, and great comic timing. From the witty exchanges and sharp humour to the more heartfelt moments, the actors kept the audience fully engaged throughout. Their enthusiasm and dedication were evident in every scene, making what is often considered one of Shakespeare's most entertaining plays both accessible and enjoyable for modern audiences.

Behind the scenes, equal credit must go to the excellent crew, director, costume team, stage managers and volunteers whose hard work ensured the production ran so smoothly. Their attention to detail, organisation and creativity helped transform the historic courtyard into a vibrant theatrical space and demonstrated the depth of talent that exists within this local theatre company.

With an audience of more than 100 people, the evening was filled with laughter and enthusiastic applause, a testament to the skill and commitment of everyone involved. The unique setting added a special atmosphere, making it a truly memorable theatrical experience.

I was also delighted to be invited to see work in progress behind the scenes, for another production planned later in the year and l look forward to returning to learn more about the excellent work being undertaken by this talented local theatre group.

ACT continues to make a significant contribution to the local arts scene and is still seeking a permanent local base from which to operate, rehearse and develop future productions. A dedicated home would help the company build on its success and continue bringing high-quality community theatre to Alsager. If any local organisation, business, or property owner may be able to assist, I am sure the company would welcome a conversation.

Congratulations to everyone involved—both on stage and behind the scenes—for delivering such an entertaining and professional evening of community theatre. 👏🎭✨

What a fantastic day at the Alsager Music Festival on Saturday, 11th July!

The sunshine certainly helped make it a great occasion, but the real stars were the excellent organisation, the fantastic variety of stalls, and the brilliant entertainment on offer throughout the day.

The festival was thoughtfully laid out, with plenty of space for families, gazebos, and everyone to relax and enjoy themselves in a safe environment. It was wonderful to see such a large turnout, creating a vibrant and friendly atmosphere from start to finish. There really was something for everyone – great music, good food, local traders, family activities, and a real sense of community spirit.

Congratulations to all the organisers, volunteers, performers, stallholders and businesses who helped make the event such a success and continue to make Alsager a great place to visit.

A brilliant day all round – already looking forward to next year! 🎵🎉🌞

On Saturday 27 June, I had the pleasure of running a tombola stall at the Alsager Family Street Market, raising funds for two very worthwhile local causes: Alsager Parkinson’s Support Group and Alsager Girlguiding.

The event provided a wonderful opportunity not only to raise money for these charities, but also to meet and talk with many Alsager residents, families, and visitors. It was lovely to see so many people taking the time to stop by the stall, have a go on the tombola, offer words of encouragement, and show their support for the work these organisations do within the community.

The atmosphere throughout the day was excellent, with a real sense of community spirit. Early feedback suggests that the market was a great success, attended by many families and enjoyed by people of all ages. It was especially encouraging to hear that people are already asking when the next event will take place!

I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who visited and supported my tombola stall, to all those who helped me on the day, and to the generous individuals who donated prizes.

On Sunday 21st June, I had the pleasure of attending the Civic Service of the Mayor of Biddulph, Councillor Charlie Smith, held at Biddulph Methodist Church.

The service was beautifully led by Reverend Yanyan Case, who also serves as a Biddulph Town Councillor, reflecting the strong connection between civic and community life.

Afterwards, we enjoyed refreshments at the Victoria Centre, kindly supported by the Greenway Moor Women’s Institute, with fantastic entertainment from the Biddulph Ukuleles—plenty of toe-tapping moments!

The event provided an excellent opportunity to meet with fellow civic representatives, including Cllr Mike Stubbs, Mayor of Kidsgrove, who is keen to visit Alsager to share ideas , especially our Christmas Market and Lights switch-on!

A really enjoyable event celebrating community spirit and collaboration.

Saturday 13th June - Lovely Coffee morning at Alsager Civic! ☕🐾

I had the pleasure of visiting the Alsager Animals in Need coffee morning which is held every second Saturday of the month. The hall was packed with stalls and buzzing with activity – a real credit to our community!

It was wonderful to meet Hilary Baxter, who has been a key coordinator and long time leader since 1990, and her daughter Lisa Williams who is continuing the fantastic work. They currently have over 70 cats looking for loving homes and are especially in need of foster carers to help care for them. If you think you could help, please do get in touch with them.

I also met a volunteer from the Alsager Clean Team out on Fairview car park, doing a great job picking up litter around this area. They’re always looking for more volunteers, so if you’d like to get involved, check out their page.

A big thank you to everyone who gives their time to support Alsager Animals in Need and to the volunteers that keep Alsager looking its best.

On 11 June 2026, I attended a delightful “Dine with the Mayor of Knutsford” evening held at a local eatery, Linden Stores. Knutsford is one of Cheshire’s most charming market towns, known for its historic streets, independent shops and strong community spirit.

The event supported the Mayor’s chosen charities—Knutsford Men’s Shed, which helps tackle social isolation and supports men’s mental health, and the PTAs of Knutsford’s four primary schools, which enrich children’s educational experiences through fundraising and community activities.

During the evening, I was able to speak with other mayors, discussing shared challenges and the ways they are addressing them. I hope to share some of these ideas with my colleagues on the Town Council.

Sunday 7th June – Fundraising at the Indoor Car Boot at The Civic

I was able to book a stall at this well-supported event hosted by the Alsager Civic, where many “car booters” had lined up to sell their goods. It was a successful day and a great opportunity to raise money for my charities. The morning started well, with a welcome cup of coffee and a bacon butty from the Civic café. There was a really positive atmosphere throughout the event, with a steady flow of visitors and plenty of interest in the stall. It was lovely to see so many people coming together, browsing, chatting, and getting a quick cuppa!

I would like to thank everyone who gave me some goodies to sell and thank my husband, Mike, who was a huge help throughout the day, not only assisting with the sales but also taking care of all the lifting and setting up! His support made a real difference
