UPDATE: Proposed development around Ashley
Following concerns about claims that up to 11,000 homes could be built around Ashley, we have now spoken directly with Pete Crowther, CEO of Tatton Estates, to establish their current position.
The 11,000 figure was not a proposal from Tatton Estates. It was an estimate produced by campaigners based on the amount of land originally identified through Cheshire East’s 'Call for Sites' process.
Mr Crowther has told us that Tatton Estates is now correcting its position with Cheshire East: 41.8 hectares, rather than the previously identified 291 hectares, is the land they wish to be considered as the Local Plan develops.
He has also confirmed that Tatton Estates intends to make clear formally to Cheshire East that the earlier 291-hectare position should not be relied upon. This will likely come by Tatton Estate objecting to their own initial proposal.
A Call for Sites is not a planning application and does not mean land will be allocated or developed.
This is a significant clarification, although 41.8 hectares remains substantial.
We will continue to monitor the situation, liaise with the Tatton Estate and keep residents updated as the position develops. We clearly have a vested interest in this development and the pressure it may add, should it goes ahead on our schools and local services.
