Early next year there will be a new recycling scheme coming into effect in Northumberland. New ways to target poor recycling quality have been trailed across the county since November and on Monday 24th August at 6.00pm, Amble Town Council are facilitating a information session with the Recycling Team. All welcome to attend.

It is with great sadness that we learn of the passing of Ian Hinson, a former Amble Town Council councillor, who will be remembered for his service to the local community and his commitment to the town and its residents.

Ian committed a lifetime to public service with an astounding 42 years of experience before his retirement from public service in 2018. Ian first worked with the Amble Urban Council before Amble Town Council came into existence in 1974 and headed up Amble Town Council as Chairman numerous times throughout his service. He last served as Chairman between 2012-2013.

In 2018, Ian was awarded the title of Honorary Freeman of the Town in recognition for his unwavering support and commitment to Amble.

His involvement in local government and local issues reflected a genuine concern for the community and a willingness to give his time to help make a difference.

Those who knew Ian will remember him not only for his role in local government, but also as a member of the Amble community and someone who had the townspeople at the heart of everything that he did. His contribution to the town forms an important part of his legacy, and his passing will be felt by those who knew him, worked alongside him and valued his service.

The thoughts of everyone at Amble Town Council, together with the wider community, are with Ian’s family, friends and loved ones at this sad time.

Ian Hinson will be remembered with respect and gratitude for the service he gave to Amble.

A message from the Northumberland Coast team:

Regarding potential sightings of nurdles on the Northumberland coast following the spillage at the Port of Tyne, please could we politely ask you to report to us any observations you may have of nurdles on the beaches, particularly between Warkworth and Boulmer, which are most likely to be affected from the South.

As yet we have not been too badly affected within the landscape; you can report small numbers. If they are observed in greater quantities, please could we additionally request a photo and a What3Words location, which can be emailed to: [email protected]

Your support in monitoring the migration of nurdles from the Tyne is extremely valuable information.

The Tyne Rivers Trust says it has already seen fish with the pellets in their system.

Amble Town Council is encouraging residents to join the Northumberland County Council Green Dog Walker scheme.
When you join the scheme (which is only open to Northumberland Residents) you'll receive free biodegradable p**p bags for you and to give to other dog walkers, a green dog armband to encourage other dog walkers to talk to you about the scheme and leaflets to hand out to dog walkers, encouraging them to also take the Green Dog Walker pledge. By signing the pledge you commit to a scheme which includes wearing the armband as often as possible when walking dog(s), cleaning and disposing of dog waste correctly and encouraging others to do the same. You will also follow the scheme's pledge that Green Dog Walkers is intended to be a non-confrontational and friendly campaign to change attitudes about dog fouling.
P**p disposal bags can be collected from Amble Library which is open at the following times:-
Mon 10am-1pm 1.30pm-6pm
Wed 10am-1pm 1.30pm-6pm
Fri 10am-1pm 1.30am-5pm
Sat 9.30am - 12.30pm
