𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗹𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲?

Often it’s not about writing another policy. It’s about answering the phone.

This weekend alone we spoke to three handlers with issues and concerns around canine welfare due to the hot weather.

None of those conversations was about ticking boxes but about helping handlers make informed decisions, understand good practice, and giving them the confidence to do the job properly.

NSCTO was established to ensure there was an organisation whose primary focus is the handler, the dog, and the competence and professionalism expected of both.

We’re not here because we think we have all the answers, and we certainly don’t claim every issue falls within our remit.

Whether it’s about courses, assessments, professional standards, canine welfare, operational good practice, or simply needing an experienced sounding board, we’re always happy to help where we can. If something sits outside our scope, we’ll point people in the right direction.

Governance isn’t just about producing documents. It’s about helping people understand them, apply them, and continually improve.

When handlers are supported, standards improve. When standards improve, everyone benefits.

Fantastic week for the RavenWolfe boys & I at Royal Ascot.
Lovely team of people and wonderful doggos! Real privilege to be part of it. Thanks to InvictaK9 & Shaw Secure K9 for having us. Now on to the next adventure... no rest for the wicked.

# Biggest disappointment of the week, finding out Henry Cavill was there and we didn't get to meet him 😢🙈🐾

Use of course dogs and handler-only certificates… it keeps coming up in conversation recently.

Do NSCTO do it? No.

A working dog team should be trained, developed, and assessed together — not as separate parts. Certification should reflect the actual operational partnership between handler and dog, because that is what truly matters in real-world deployments.

At National Specialist Canine Training Organisation we strongly believe that the dog you train with should be the dog you pass with. Anything else can create gaps in understanding, handling standards, operational consistency, and overall team reliability.

Real capability comes from building a genuine working partnership through training, exposure, and assessment together — not simply obtaining a certificate with an end result of no dog to work.

Train together. Pass together. Work together.
