Milford Haven to receive new lifeboat in 2029

We’re excited to announce that in 2029 Angle Lifeboat Station (Milford Haven) will receive a brand new world-class lifeboat incorporating the latest in technology and crew comfort allowing our volunteers to continue doing what they do best, saving lives at sea.

In 2029 (exact date TBC) Angle Lifeboat Station will receive a Coastal Lifeboat (CLB). A new lifeboat capable of operating up to 25NM offshore with a top speed of 35 knots, which will allow us to reach those that we rescue faster. The CLB will have a watertight wheelhouse and will be self-righting. This is part of the RNLI’s 2040 Lifeboat Fleet Strategy.

Our current Tamar Class Lifeboat ‘Mark Mason’ has served the station brilliantly, and we’ll always be proud of the lives we’ve saved and the people we have rescued while Mark Mason has been on service.

Thanks to our supporters and volunteers, we’ve been evolving our lifeboats and technology for over 200 years. The CLB is the next step in making sure we’re fit for the future.

We’ll keep working alongside our flank lifeboat stations and other emergency services to provide lifesaving cover along this stretch of coast just as we always have.

Angle RNLI tasked to medical emergency onboard fishing vessel

At 3:03pm yesterday afternoon the crew were tasked to assist a crew member onboard a fishing vessel suffering a cardiac episode 12 miles south west of St Ann’s Head.

The lifeboat launched shortly after and with the fishing vessel making best speed back towards the Haven the crew rendezvoused with the vessel 5 miles off St Ann’s Head.

With the casualty reported to be conscious and breathing and the conditions not suitable for a transfer a plan was made for both boats to proceed to the shelter of Mill Bay where the casualty could be taken onboard the lifeboat. Once in the calmer waters of Mill Bay the casualty was transferred onboard and assessed by our casualty care trained crew members.

At this point Coastguard Rescue Helicopter R387 from St Athan was arriving on scene and after the initial assessment from the crew it was decided that the winch paramedic from the helicopter would be required. The paramedic was winched aboard the lifeboat and the casualty was soon packaged and winched into the helicopter for onward transfer to hospital in Cardiff.

With no further assistance required the crew were stood down and returned to station where the lifeboat was back alongside and ready for further service by 4:45pm.

Angle RNLI tasked to conduct medical evacuation from Skokholm Island

At 4:21pm this afternoon the crew were tasked to assist in the extraction of a 74-year-old female suffering a suspected heart attack on Skokholm Island.

The lifeboat launched 10 minutes later and began making best speed to Skokholm. Whilst en route, an update from the coastguard stated that an off duty cardiac nurse was with the casualty who had concerns for her condition deteriorating.

The lifeboat arrived on scene around 25 minutes after launching and with the tide too low to get the All-Weather Lifeboat alongside the landing, the lifeboats inflatable Y boat was deployed to head in with casualty care trained crew members onboard.

The casualty was located on the landing with the Skokholm Island Wardens and was swiftly taken onboard the Y boat before being transferred onto the lifeboat. The crew then made best speed back to the Port Authority Jetty where an ambulance was requested to meet them.

Once back at the jetty and with the waiting times for an ambulance increasing the casualty was taken up to the lifeboat station before being transferred to Withybush Hospital in a private vehicle.

The lifeboat was shut down and ready for further service by 6pm.

Angle RNLI tasked to assist paddleboarder during Saturday morning training exercise

At 10am this morning whilst conducting a search exercise off the approaches to Milford Haven the crew were diverted to assist a paddleboarder in difficulty off Barafundle Beach.

The crew abandoned their exercise and immediately began making best speed to Barafundle in slight to moderate seas with a southwesterly force 4 wind. Tenby All-Weather Lifeboat and St Govan’s Coastguard Rescue Team were also tasked.

Whilst rounding St Govan’s Head the crew were stood down when the coastguard confirmed that the paddleboarder had self recovered safe and well.

With this, the crew began making their way back to Milford Haven and conducted a few exercises whilst en route and the lifeboat was back alongside her berth and ready for further service by 12pm.

Two simultaneous shouts for Angle RNLI today

At 11:30am this morning the crew were tasked alongside Milford Haven Harbour Patrol to provide safety cover to local farmers and a local fishing vessel attempting to recover 8 cows that had fallen from cliffs at Ellen’s Well, Angle.

The lifeboat was soon on scene and assisted in deploying the lifeboats inflatable Y boat while local farmers and equipment were transferred to the cove in which the cows were now stranded.

As the tide continued to flood, the cows were coaxed towards the waters edge and secured with lines. One at a time, the cows were then enticed into the water and taken around to Angle Point to be landed on the beach.

During the recovery operation the crew were diverted to investigate reports of a person cut off by the tide below the Impala Terminal at Gelliswick.

Both the lifeboat and Y boat crew proceeded to Gelliswick and soon located the person ashore in a bay to the west of the terminal. The Y boat crew spoke to the person who confirmed that they were a photographer, were aware of their surroundings and were happy to remain in situ. With this, the crew returned to the original tasking.

By 2:45pm all of the cows were now recovered safe and well to the beach. With no further assistance required the crew were stood down and the lifeboat was back alongside her berth and ready for further service by 3pm.

A catch up of recent shouts for Angle RNLI

At 10:55pm on Wednesday the 9th of September the crew were tasked alongside St Govan’s Coastguard Rescue Team to assist Dyfed Powys Police with an incident at Pembroke Dock.

The lifeboat stood by for around 40 minutes until the incident was safely concluded by police officers. With no further assistance required the crew were stood down and the lifeboat was back alongside her berth by 12:30am.

At 11:39pm on Wednesday the 16th of September the crew were tasked alongside Little Haven Inshore Lifeboat and Coastguard Rescue Teams from Dale, Broad Haven and St David’s to assist Dyfed Powys Police with the search for a missing person at Broad Haven North Beach.

The lifeboat launched and made best speed to the area. Once off Borough Head the crew began a shoreline search in the direction of Broad Haven North Beach.

Not long into the search the casualty was located by the Coastguard Teams in Broad Haven. With this the crew were stood down and the lifeboat was back alongside her berth and ready for further service by 2:30am.

At 6:38pm on Friday the 18th of September the crew were tasked to assist a 9 meter yacht with four persons onboard which had broken down and was dragging anchor towards the shore off Milford Shelf.

The lifeboat launched shortly after and was soon on scene. After assessing the situation and with a fresh southwesterly force 6 wind blowing the casualty vessel towards the shore a tow was swiftly rigged and the yacht taken to the safety of the lock at Milford Marina.

With no further assistance required and the vessel left to be taken into the marina by the marinas workboat, the crew were stood down and the lifeboat was back alongside and ready for service by 7:30pm.

Angle RNLI volunteer recognised for 10 years of service

Congratulations to Deputy Coxswain & Mechanic Thomas Kehoe who has been recognised for 10 years of dedicated service with the RNLI.

Thomas was presented with his award last night during the station’s monthly Operations Team Meeting, marking a decade of commitment to saving lives at sea and supporting the work of the RNLI.

We would like to thank Thomas for his continued dedication, commitment and service to the RNLI and the local community.

Two new Launch Authorities qualify at Angle RNLI

Recently we welcomed Annie Thomas and Phil Jones to the Launch Authority team at Angle Lifeboat Station following the successful completion of their final assessments.

Having already been operational for a number of weeks both Annie and Phil have already been responsible for authorising multiple launches of our lifeboat.
