This Week’s Achievements

Congratulations to our cadets on their fantastic achievements this week:

🎯 4 Air Rifle Bronze Shot awards
🛫 2 Blue Wings awards
⭐ 1 Blue Leadership award

Well done to everyone who earned these awards! They will now progress to the next level in their chosen activities.

Each activity follows a progression system similar to the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, with different levels to work through. As cadets complete each stage, they move on to the next, which brings new challenges and opportunities to develop their skills and confidence.

By continuing to progress through the levels, our cadets build experience, resilience, and a real sense of achievement, all working towards the ultimate goal of reaching Gold level during their cadet career.

Keep up the excellent work—we’re proud of you all!

✈️ TAKE TO THE SKY! ✈️

What an incredible day for our cadets at the 661 VGS Longest Day event at RAF Kirknewton!

With an early 7:00am start, four of our cadets headed off for an unforgettable experience – and every single one of them got airborne! Even better, it was their first ever flight in a glider with RAF Air Cadets. 🛩️

The smiles said it all! 😃 From take-off to landing, the excitement and enjoyment were clear to see, making memories that will last a lifetime.

A huge thank you to 661 Volunteer Gliding Squadron, RAF Kirknewton for giving our cadets this fantastic opportunity and helping inspire the next generation of aviators.

🌟 Volunteers' Week 2026 🌟

This Volunteers' Week, 2422 (Arbroath) Squadron Air Cadets would like to say a huge thank you to our dedicated volunteers who give their time to support local young people and help make our squadron such a success.

Our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do, providing opportunities for cadets to take part in activities such as flying, adventure training, fieldcraft, sports, first aid, leadership training, Duke of Edinburgh's Award, and community events. Whether helping behind the scenes or working directly with cadets, every volunteer makes a real difference.

As a squadron based in Arbroath, we are proud to provide local young people with opportunities to challenge themselves, build confidence, develop life skills, and make lasting friendships.

You don't need a military background to volunteer with the Air Cadets. We welcome people from all walks of life, and full training and support are provided. Whether you can spare a few hours a week or want to take on a more active role, there are opportunities for everyone.

If you're interested in joining the team at 2422 (Arbroath) Squadron Air Cadets, we'd be delighted to hear from you and show you how volunteering can make a real difference to young people in our community.

A heartfelt thank you to all our volunteers, past and present, for their commitment, enthusiasm, and service to our squadron and the wider Arbroath community.

🎯 CADET GP RIFLE LIVE FIRING 🎯

Over the past couple of weekends, some of our cadets joined others from across the region to continue progressing through their live firing training with the Cadet GP Rifle.

Cadets fired at distances of 100, 200 and 300 yards, developing their marksmanship skills, confidence and fieldcraft under pressure. 💥

A special congratulations to Cpl McAndrew, who achieved his Silver Shot qualification this past weekend! 👏

This now allows him to progress onto the next stage of training — “run downs” — where cadets must sprint 100 yards to the firing point before loading and engaging targets within a strict time limit. 🏃‍♂️🎯

Training like this helps prepare our cadets for competitions such as the Cadet Inter Service Skill at Arms Meeting (CISSAM) taking place in October.

Well done to all cadets involved for their hard work and commitment!

🏅 Sports 🏅

At the beginning of the month, our cadets attended the Central Scotland Wing Athletics competition and represented the squadron brilliantly throughout the day.

The cadets competed in shot putt, discus, high jump, long jump, and a variety of running distances. A special mention goes to the junior boys relay team, who delivered an outstanding performance to win their event! 🏃‍♂️🥇

Well done to all the cadets who took part — a fantastic haul of medals all round and a great achievement for everyone involved.

Being quiet doesn’t mean we haven’t been busy! 👀

This week we welcomed OC Wing, Deputy OC Wing, and the Wing Warrant Officer for our Annual Formal Inspection.

The evening was led by Cdt Sgts Baxter and Molloy, who guided the inspection team around the different activities and showcases our cadets had been taking part in.

Cadets demonstrated:
🔹 Learning marksmanship principles
🔹 Completing Flight Simulator tasks as part of their Blue Level training
🔹 Using our latest MTA kit purchase, where teams were challenged to build the tallest tower possible using the equipment provided

There was also a great opportunity for some of our cadets to ask questions directly to OC Wing and the Wing Warrant Officer.

Overall, the evening went really well — a huge well done to everyone involved for their hard work, confidence, and teamwork! 👏
