Angus Council provides a range of services and resources to support parents to look after their own children. While our goal is to help families stay together, there are times when children and young people cannot live in their own home. Illness, unemployment and changing family circumstances can all lead to tension and stress. Sometimes parents feel unable to cope, sometimes children are neglecte

d or abused. When families are struggling sometimes they need a break from each other. In most such cases where children need to be in care, they are placed with foster carers. Children and young people of all ages need the care and support of foster carers - from babies to 18 years old. Foster carers can provide care, stability and support. This helps children and young people to grow and develop in a positive environment. Parents remain significant and important people in most children's lives and foster carers often work alongside social workers to improve the relationship between parents and their children through regular and positive contact. Some of these children and young people will return home, some will move on to a new permanent family and some will leave care to live independently in their own flat or other suitable accommodation in the community.

When Charlotte was growing up, her foster carers encouraged her to get involved in different after-school activities. One of those opportunities led Charlotte to football and sparked a passion that has continued to grow.

Today, Charlotte is on a football scholarship and working towards her dream of playing professionally. 🤩

It’s a brilliant example of how a little encouragement, a new opportunity and someone in your corner can help a young person discover what they’re capable of. ❤️

Now the summer holidays have finished, the children are back at school and life can start to feel a little quieter. Maybe your own children are becoming more independent, moving on to college or university, or perhaps a spare room is no longer needed in the same way. 🤔

What a brilliant day at our annual Summer Fun Day. 😍

Foster carers, adoptive parents and kinship families came together last week for an afternoon of fun, food and plenty of smiles. There was plenty to keep everyone entertained, with a bouncy castle, glitter tattoos, a face painter, balloons, music and singing, and a BBQ – but most importantly, it was a chance for families to relax, have fun and spend time together.

Thank you to everyone who came along and helped make it such a great day!♥️

A lot of people don’t realise that you get paid as a foster carer.

At Angus Council, foster carers receive a fee in recognition of the valuable role they play, along with an allowance to cover the costs of caring for a child (such as food, clothing etc). There are also additional payments for things like birthdays and summer/Christmas holidays.

We know people don’t do it for the money, but it’s important information to have when considering fostering.

What a fantastic time we had at the Kirrie Show today! ☀️

It was wonderful to meet so many people and chat about fostering and adoption with the council. Thank you to everyone who stopped by our stand to say hello, ask questions, and find out more about the difference fostering and adoption can make to the lives of children and young people in Angus.
