The very talented local sculptor, Simon Groves of Groves Sculpture, was commissioned by Greening Arundel to create a Screaming Swift sculpture, which was installed this morning on the large verge between Ford Road and Torton Hill Road. The stunning sculpture is a symbol of Arundel's commitment to Bring Back Our Birds. It was funded by the South Downs National Park, Arun District Council, Arundel Town Council and National Highways 👏

A stunning new addition to Arundel is being installed today, 26 May 2026.

Local artist Simon Groves of Groves Sculpture has created an incredible Screaming Swift sculpture to celebrate the commitment of Arundel residents to the Bring Back Our Birds (B-BOB) initiative. Carved from locally sourced Western Red Cedar from Steyning, the sculpture stands as a powerful symbol of community action for nature.

The sculpture will be installed on the grassy area opposite Warwick Court and Arundel Baptist Church.

There will be an official dedication ceremony with the Mayor on Sunday 14 June at 11am, during Great Big Green Week.

This project was made possible thanks to support from the South Downs National Park, Arun District Council , Arundel Town Council and National Highways

For centuries, Swifts, Swallows and House Martins have been part of Arundel’s skies, but sadly their numbers are declining rapidly across the UK. Through the B-BOB initiative, local residents are helping to reverse this trend by:

🌿 Planting pollinator-friendly flowers
🐝 Reducing the use of pesticides, herbicides and fertilisers
💧 Adding water features to gardens to support insects and provide mud for nest-building
🏠 Installing Swift boxes and House Martin/Swallow nesting cups across homes and businesses

Thanks to the community’s efforts, more than 100 nesting cups and Swift boxes have already been installed around the town, alongside house martin towers at the Community Orchard and The Causeway.
