Public meeting - Men's Shed in Arundel
Wednesday 22 April, 6-7.30pm
Arundel Football Club, Mill Rd, Arundel BN18 9PA

Arundel Town Council is exploring the idea of setting up a Men’s Shed in Arundel - and we’d love to hear from you.

Men’s Sheds are community spaces where men can get together, share skills, make things, and enjoy good company. They’re relaxed, welcoming places for anyone who might have a bit more time on their hands and wants to stay active, social, and connected.

We’re pleased to be working in collaboration with Arundel Football Club, who are keen to support this initiative. The club has generously offered space on their grounds where a shed could potentially be built or converted; giving us a real opportunity to create something lasting for the community.

What’s a Men’s Shed all about?
🔨 A practical space for hands-on activities like woodwork, repairs, or gardening
☕ A social space to have a brew, a chat, and a laugh
🤝 A friendly, inclusive environment where everyone is welcome
This first meeting is simply to gauge interest, share ideas, and see if there’s enough local enthusiasm to get something started.
Whether you’d like to get involved, learn new skills, meet people, or just find out more, you’re very welcome to come along.
Join us and help shape something positive for our community.

Arundel Community Speedwatch Team

The dedicated volunteers of the Arundel Community Speedwatch team were out throughout February and March at locations around the town. During the sessions, we have monitored more than 1310 vehicles and have reported more than 214 speeders, many of whom were travelling well above 30 in the 20mph zones near our schools, our surgery and in our residential neighbourhoods.

The team carries out sessions at various locations and times across Arundel and currently comprises 13 volunteers. If you’d like to get involved and join the team, please email [email protected].

A huge thank you to our fantastic volunteers for their ongoing commitment to keeping our community safe.

Here’s a message from Arun District Council about the new recycling arrangements …..

Biffa has collected more than 4,000 unwanted bins so far – thank you for your patience.

The current priority is delivering the new service on time, including food bin and caddy deliveries, remaining 180 litre general waste bin deliveries and phase one of the rollout to flats.

Over the coming weeks, Biffa will complete a district-wide sweep to collect all registered unwanted bins, helping to minimise the need for multiple collections as requests continue to come in. The aim is to complete all collections by the end of May.

If you would like your bin collected, you can register for this free service until 24 April at https://www.arun.gov.uk/simpler-recycling/
or by calling 01903 737754.

If you’ve already requested collection of your old unwanted bin, you don’t need to contact us again as this clogs up our system and slows things down. Please leave your registered, unwanted bin upside down outside your property.

This week, Arundel was honoured to welcome a very special “Tree of Hope” to Swanbourne Lake — grown from the iconic Sycamore Gap tree on Hadrian’s Wall.

One of only 15 gifted to National Parks across the UK, this young sycamore now stands proudly at the gateway to the South Downs National Park, symbolising resilience, renewal, and our shared commitment to nature recovery.

As Mayor of Arundel, Cllr Carolyn Kenney said:
“We are honoured that this Tree of Hope, with its rich cultural heritage, has been planted in Arundel at the gateway to the glorious landscape of the South Downs National Park.”

We look forward to seeing this tree flourish for generations to come, offering hope, beauty, and a living link to one of the nation’s most cherished landscapes.
