Today we honour the memory of those who lost their lives on 11 September 2001.

We remember the brave firefighters and emergency service workers who selflessly responded to help those in need.

We will never forget.

Yesterday at approximately 22:26 we were mobilised alongside colleagues from Ashburton Fire Station and Bovey Tracey Fire Station to reports of a vehicle that had left the road and went over a fifty feet drop and landed on its side on the edge of the river Dart.
On arrival the officer in charge sent a reconnaissance team down to the waters edge to ascertain the extent of the injured parties.
The team expected the worst when approaching the vehicle but were amazed and incredibly relieved to see that the three occupants were not injured but trapped within the vehicle due to damage to the car.
The car was close to the waters edge so a rescue sector was created by the officer in charge and crews got to work stabilising the vehicle and removing the front windscreen so the occupants could be helped out and after being checked over by the ambulance service guided to the road surface above.
A tricky extrication due to the location of the vehicle and the added hazard of the river and the extra challenges that working close to a waters edge brings us.

We are devastated to hear of the loss of two firefighters and a member of the public during an incident in Oxfordshire yesterday evening.

Our thoughts are with the family, friends and colleagues of those who have sadly lost their lives. We are also thinking of the injured firefighters who are recovering.

Our hearts go out to our colleagues at Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service (Official) - we are in mourning with you.

Flags will be flown at half-mast across our Service today.

We have been experiencing a high number of calls following the heavy rain in Devon and Somerset earlier today, with more rain expected to sweep across the area this evening.

Water levels are likely to keep rising, with roads becoming flooded. Please do not drive through floodwater, especially where warning signs have been put in place.

Just 30cm of flowing water can make a vehicle stuck or even sweep it away.

Today at 10.am 23 years ago 246 people went to sleep in preparation for their morning flights. 2,606 people went to sleep in preparation for work in the morning. 343 firefighters went to sleep in preparation for their morning shift. 60 police officers went to sleep in preparation for morning patrol. 8 paramedics went to sleep in preparation for the morning shift. None of them saw past 10:00am Sept 11, 2001.

In one single moment life may never be the same. As you live and enjoy the breaths you take today and tonight before you go to sleep in preparation for your life tomorrow, kiss the ones you love, snuggle a little tighter, and never take one second of your life for granted.
