Make Your Neighbourhood Safer: Report Empty Buildings

Empty or poorly maintained buildings can attract anti-social behaviour (ASB) such as vandalism, trespassing and fly-tipping, which affects the surrounding community and residents’ sense of feeling safe.

Vacant properties can fall into disrepair, sometimes attracting squatters and anti-social behaviour. That's why we're working with Ad Hoc property management to find opportunities to bring buildings back into use and create safer, more connected places.

We’re collecting items for our OPAL play and would be grateful for any donations. If you’ve had a recent clear out or have anything tucked away in your loft, shed, or garage we’d love to give it a new home. Thank you for your support.

As residents will be aware, there have been ongoing intermittent water issues and South East Water are doing all they can to resolve the situation.

However, may we please ask residents to avoid calling 111 in this situation. We appreciate it's difficult for those affected, but 111 is strictly for urgent medical problems that are not immediately life threatening.

Instead, please refer to South East Water directly, or look at their website to see the latest updates. We also have a more general update on the homepage of our website. The link for their website is in the comments.

If you are still affected, please be aware that there are two bottled water stations open, one at Challock Village Hall (TN25 4AU) and the other at Kingsnorth School (TN23 3EF). These are open from 12pm-9pm.

In addition, The Julie Rose Stadium, The Stour Centre and Tenterden Leisure Centres are offering free showers for those in need.

The Julie Rose is open from 7am-8:30pm Monday to Friday, 8am-4pm on Saturday and 8am-2pm on Sundays.
The Stour Centre is open 6:30am-10pm Monday to Friday and 8am-8pm at the weekend.
Tenterden Leisure Centre is open 6:30am-9:30pm Monday to Friday and 8am-6:30pm at the weekend.

We do understand how disruptive this is for our residents and we'd like to thank you once again for your patience.

💚 Today marked the final day of our Community Action Week, and what a fantastic week it has been across our communities.

Over the past week we have been out in Conningbrook, Little Burton Farm, Bybrook & Bockhanger and Kennington carrying out litter picks, cleaning signs, reporting fly-tipping, blocked drains, potholes and other issues to help improve our local areas for everyone.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us throughout the week, including our police officers, councillors, and Peter New, our local Neighbourhood Watch Coordinator, for supporting the week and speaking with residents across the community.

It has been wonderful to see so many people getting involved and showing real community spirit. From helping tidy our neighbourhoods to stopping for conversations and offering support, every contribution has made a difference.

Community Action Week may be over for now, but the work to keep our communities clean, safe, and welcoming continues all year round. Please continue reporting issues, supporting local initiatives, and looking out for one another 💚

Thank you again to everyone who took part, shared posts, volunteered their time, or simply stopped to say hello throughout the week.

This weekend saw the hottest May day on record and demand for water across our network has surged.

We know some customers have experienced intermittent supplies during the hot weather and we are incredibly sorry. Our teams are working around the clock to fix leaks and bursts, move more water around the network and support customers most affected.

If you currently have water, please help us protect supplies in your area by only using water for essential use such as drinking, washing and cooking.

Please avoid:
💧Hosepipes
💧Sprinklers
💧Jet washes
💧Non-essential water use

Small changes now can help keep taps flowing locally while temperatures remain high. We’ve increased water production across our treatment works, have tankers operating 24/7 and are supporting vulnerable customers, hospitals and care homes where needed.

Thank you for your support and patience.

Great second day for our Community Action Week today in Bockhanger 💚

Today we’ve been out painting the balls outside Bockhanger Parade Shops, litter picking, and reporting broken street signs and fly-tipping to help improve the area for everyone.

It was also fantastic to see Uprising bring their Panna Football setup to Bockhanger, funded by our council, and wonderful to see local children enjoying a kick about together ⚽

A huge thank you to Peter New, our local Neighbourhood Watch Coordinator, who joined us alongside the police, speaking with residents and supporting the community throughout the morning.

It was also great to welcome Cllr Diccon Spain this morning and talk the progress being made across the area.

Community Action Week continues across Kennington this week and everyone is welcome to get involved! Whether it’s litter picking, reporting potholes, graffiti, fly-tipping, damaged signs or lighting issues, every small action makes a real difference.

⏰ You do not need to stay all day, even 20 minutes helps.

📍 Meeting locations are listed on the poster in the comments, so just turn up and join us 💚

Let’s work together and show what community spirit can achieve. Please share this post and encourage friends, neighbours and family to get involved.
