The Women’s Institute (WI) is a grassroots, member-led organisation that plays a unique role in providing women with educational opportunities and the chance to build new skills, to take part in a wide variety of activities and to campaign on issues that matter to the

m and their communities. Our meetings are friendly and lively with a varied programme of speakers and activities. You are very welcome to join us at any of our meetings. Why not come along as a visitor? We would love to see you and, who knows, you might want to become a member! It is finally here - our newly rebranded WI Magazine: and a new way to provide you deep-dives and longer interviews on all things NFWI.

Fittingly for a summer issue, we present 10 pages on beach life, and spotlight some wonderful coastal WIs. We've also got a new section where your questions are answered by a WI panel in 'WIsdom'; a piece on slow crafting; and all your favourites from recipes to campaign updates.

We really hope you enjoy your new magazine, and that you find it a great read for the summer!

We are sad to lose one of our dear members, Pat Buckeridge, Pat lived in St Michael’s for many years joining our WI the same night as Anne in 1968, apparently President several times but her main claim to fame was acting in and directing many of the plays our WI put on taking part in Festivals etc. She was an actress for many years being part of the cast of ‘Emergency Ward 10’ for those that remember it! (It was the first soap opera and medical drama on British TV ) And ran an antique business in Cheltenham and Gloucester before retiring and spending her time involved in village activities. When moving to Cheltenham she still kept returning to the village for various events and of course WI. A few years ago, she moved to be closer to her son but she still kept in touch with several of our members, her last visit being to Ann’s 90th Birthday Party. Pat would have been 100 in 4 weeks’ time. Her warm and friendly smile will be missed by everyone who knew her.
