From fieldcraft exercises and leadership challenges to STEM activities, shooting and adventure training, our cadets packed an incredible amount into the week. Every activity provided an opportunity to learn new skills, build confidence and create lasting memories.

Here is another selection of moments captured during what was an outstanding week of training and achievement.

⭐️AND THAT’S A WRAP!⭐️

Thanks for following our posts this week, spotlighting some of our amazing Volunteers from across the Wing.
We’d like to finish by sharing a successful Duke of Edinburgh Award expedition from today…

Over the past three years, this dedicated DofE team has worked consistently to support and deliver expedition experiences for cadets:

Plt Off Alison Brown (Sector 1 Lead, 1263 Rochdale Royal Air Force Air Cadets), Plt Off Peter Brown (Sector 4, 2200 Oldham Air Cadets), CI Dave McVety (Sector 4, 247 Ashton-under-Lyne Squadron Air Cadets), FS Spencer Donnelly (Sector 3, 1036 Bury Squadron Air Training Corps), Sgt Janet Edgerton (Sector 1, 2301 Heywood Squadron - RAF Air Cadets) and CI Michael Brown (Sector 1, 1263 Rochdale Royal Air Force Air Cadets)

Through strong teamwork, reliability, and a shared commitment to development, they have successfully guided numerous groups through the challenges of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. From navigating demanding routes to managing the inevitable unexpected moments, the team has built a reputation for steady delivery and positive outcomes.

Their ability to work cohesively has ensured continuity and support for all cadets, at all stages, helping them not only complete their awards but gain confidence, resilience, and valuable life skills along the way.

Anyone staff wanting to join DofE, please get in touch with your Sector Lead or the Wing DofE Officer!

For the last time this week…

⭐️TEAM SPOTLIGHT⭐️

You’ve probably already seen pictures from our recent Wing Skills Week Camp, an annual hight for Greater Manchester Wing where hundreds of Cadets develop their Military Skills!

But none of that would be possible without the Army of Cadet Forces Adult Volunteers who gave up their Half Term to facilitate our Super Camp… from Weapons Instructors to Logistics Drivers, we couldn’t have done it without you! 👏🏼

📸 We didn’t manage to get an overall Staff Team picture, but featured are the Range & Fieldcraft Teams who kept our Cadets busy last week.

“Volunteers’ Week is a perfect time to reflect on how lucky I’ve been on the journey the Royal Air Force Air Cadets has given me. From the honour of representing the organisation as a cadet on IACE in Canada, to standing proudly at Buckingham Palace with my own cadets as they received their Gold DofE Awards - these moments will stay with me forever.

Alongside these experiences, it is now a real privilege to have been appointed as Officer Commanding Greater Manchester Wing. I’m surrounded every day by dedicated CFAVs, Padres and Civilian Committee members who are outstanding and who work incredibly hard to support and deliver brilliant experiences for our cadets and our colleagues. Massive thanks to each and every one of you for everything that you do.”

⭐️ VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT ⭐️

📇 Flying Officer Kathryn Mannion
📍Officer Commanding 1005 Radcliffe and Whitefield Sqn RAF Cadets
🚝 Train Driver, Northern

Kathryn’s Journey with the RAFAC started over 14 Years ago when she joined the Civilian Committee of 80 Bolton Squadron - Air Training Corps as a parent wanting to support the Squadron. She quickly got the bug, and it wasn’t long before she became a Civilian Instructor and eventually Senior Non-Commissioned Officer. Since moving to Radcliffe Squadron, Kathryn has excelled with her organisation skills and, despite many challenges with the Squadron, she goes above and beyond to ensure her Cadets achieve as much as they possibly can! This lead to her taking Command of the Squadron and Commissioning as an Officer 2 years ago!
