From redundancy to a perfect new role, one resident has recently been supported by our Employment Support Service to secure a job aligning with his passion for helping others 🤝

He had extensive experience, qualifications, and many transferable skills, but faced challenges with interview technique, tailoring applications, and a competitive job market. One of our employment officers worked closely with him to support with strengthening personal statements, researching employers, and interview preparation. Regular reviews and guidance helped him build confidence and improve his job search approach.

The resident successfully secured a role as an employment officer with Tameside Council before the end of his redundancy period. The position aligns closely with his experience and values, allowing him to continue supporting people into positive outcomes while providing financial security and a clear career pathway.

Aged 16 to 24, not in education, employment or training and not sure what's next? You're not the only one.

Drop in to Kickstart Your Future, part of our free Together for Tameside event, at Stalybridge Victoria Market Hall on Friday 23 October, 10am to 1pm, to find out what’s on offer to you.

Whether you're looking to earn money, learn new skills, try work experience, find training, explore apprenticeships, or simply get some ideas, you'll find friendly people ready to help. Just come along and meet local organisations offering advice on work experience, digital skills, and creative programmes.

There’ll be six providers offering projects for you to get involved in, including:

Veterans Food CO - Learn cooking skills, gain hands-on experience, earn industry certificates, and explore jobs, apprenticeships, and training opportunities in hospitality 🍳

Skills Construction Centre- Fancy a career in construction? Gain hands-on skills, earn recognised qualifications, and get support into a job, apprenticeship, or further training 🚧

No pressure. No expectations. You don't need to have a plan. Your journey to kickstarting your future could start here.

📱💜 Digitober 2026 is here! Join us across Tameside for free digital support, learning and family fun! 💜📱
Throughout October, Tameside Libraries, Tameside Council and PCrefrub are helping residents build digital confidence with free support sessions, IT workshops and one-to-one help available across the borough.
Whether you want to learn basic computer skills, improve your job searching, get online safely, or receive support with your devices, there's something for everyone.

🎨 Quiver Augmented Reality Colouring Drop-In Session
Bring colouring to life with Quiver! Children can colour special activity sheets and then use augmented reality technology to watch their creations jump off the page in interactive 3D. It's a fun hands-on introduction to augmented reality that blends traditional creativity with digital technology, while encouraging imagination, exploration and confidence with new digital tools.

Tameside residents who are out of work will be able to access a variety of support services at Together for Tameside.
The free event will be held at Stalybridge Victoria Market Hall, SK15 2BN, on Friday 23 October 2026 from 10am to 1pm.
Organised by Tameside Council's Employment and Skills Team, the event brings together a wide range of organisations that can help residents take positive steps towards employment, training and a brighter future. This includes support with employment and volunteering, digital skills, mental health, health and wellbeing, finances, debt and housing, family and children, training, and education.
The drop-in event is aimed at those aged 16+ who are currently unemployed and living in Tameside.
It is a chance to speak with organisations face-to-face about what support they can receive. There is no pressure, just friendly and welcoming advice.
Organisations attending include Age UK, Big Life Group, Citizens Advice Tameside, Diversity Matters NW, Jigsaw Support, Action Together, Social Prescribers, DWP, Manchester College, Tameside College, Talking Therapies, and many of Tameside Council’s teams such as WorkWell, BeWell Tameside, and Careers.
Tameside Council Executive Member for Lifelong Learning and Culture, Cllr Leanne Feeley said: “Together for Tameside is a brilliant opportunity to access a wealth of support and guidance all under one roof.
“It allows residents to connect directly with organisations and chat with those who understand, in a friendly environment. Attendees will be met with a warm welcome and plenty of ideas for their journey to gain more purpose and focus in their lives.
“I encourage anyone interested to come along and make the most of this fantastic event.”
Together for Tameside is held several times a year, with the main purpose being to engage with residents who might feel stuck in their lives and need help to get back on track.
