How we helped keep one of Liverpool's busiest high streets safe👇️🛠️

When our long-term client, JLL requested the inspection of multiple residential blocks around Liverpool ONE, we were ready to step up to the challenge. The unique design of the building meant we had to design a bespoke access strategy tailored specifically for the building's complex exterior, all without disrupting the building's residents or the heavy footfall of the shopping centre below.

For everyone celebrating Yorkshire Day at Emley Moor over the weekend, the first stages of our recladding project were impossible to miss.

As the festivities took place in the shadow of the 330m-tall structure, visitors caught a glimpse of the newly installed V-DECK platform that our team has been tirelessly constructing over the past few weeks.

It's a reminder of just how much this iconic landmark means to the local community. We're proud to be playing our part in preserving its future while helping maintain one of Yorkshire's most recognisable structures.

RECENT PROJECT | Inspecting one of the North West's most iconic structures. 🌉

Working on behalf of Mott MacDonald and asset owner & maintainer Halton Borough Council, our team of rope access technicians recently completed detailed inspections of the Grade II-listed Silver Jubilee Bridge.

Combining different specialist access techniques, the team safely gained access to the bottom chord cable hangers, where they were able to capture detailed condition data on our live digital management system. This was then shared with our client to aid and support future maintenance planning and asset integrity.

With over a decade of involvement in this regular inspection programme, we're proud to continue helping safeguard this vital transport link through proactive inspection and maintenance.

PROJECT UPDATE | V-DECK arrives at Emley Moor 🏗️

Our next phase at Emley Moor Transmitting Station is now underway, with the arrival of our V-DECK suspended access platform.

We added V-DECK to our access strategy for this project to provide an innovative and safe access solution to the underside of the tower's control room. The suspended platform can be used as a smarter alternative to conventional access systems, particularly on complex listed structures such as Emley Moor.

Compared with traditional solutions, V-DECK can deliver:
✔️ Up to 88% faster installation
✔️ 93% lighter system weight
✔️ 75% lower transport volume
✔️ 100% fewer contact points with the structure
✔️ 79% fewer individual components

For asset owners, that means less disruption, reduced loading on the structure and an access solution that protects both the asset and its appearance without compromising safety.

CASE STUDY | Arndale Linkbridge Industrial Cleaning🐝🫧

Project Overview👇
Vertical Access Ltd was appointed to carry out specialist cleaning works on the Arndale Link Bridge, a high-traffic connection between Manchester Arndale and Selfridges in the heart of the city.

The project involved cleaning the bridge’s external elements, including glass panels, steelwork, seals, vents and associated components, restoring the appearance of a key city centre asset.

The Challenge 👀
Working in one of Manchester’s busiest pedestrian routes plus an active Metrolink network meant precision planning was essential. The team had to coordinate access, public protection and tram network requirements, including planned possessions and overhead line isolations, to ensure the works could be completed safely.

To avoid impacting commuters, businesses and tram operations, the project was delivered across a series of night shifts, keeping public interruption to a minimum.

Our Approach 🤝
Our access strategy combined multiple specialist techniques:

1️⃣ IRATA industrial rope access
2️⃣ Van-mounted MEWP access
3️⃣ PASMA tower scaffolding

Using the DOFF cleaning system alongside manual methods, our team removed any excess dirt and contamination while protecting the integrity of the bridge structure.

Every shift was supported by detailed planning, equipment checks, permits and close coordination with all stakeholders.

Delivery & Results 🎖️
The works were completed safely and efficiently across multiple night shifts, with minimal disruption to the surrounding area.

The result? A cleaner, refreshed Link Bridge ready to continue serving thousands of people travelling through Manchester every day.

We are now officially on-site at the tallest freestanding structure in the UK😮🗼

Our teams have begun mobilising on Emley Moor transmitting tower to begin the first phase of the recladding project.
