A controversial plan to build 175 homes in Mossley has taken a step further.

Outline permission for the development on land off Huddersfield Road, between Hey Farm and Mossley Hollins High School, was granted in July 2024, despite the town’s MP, Jonathan Reynolds, its three Tameside councillors – Stephen Homer, Jack Homer and Tafheen Sharif – Mossley Town Council and 512 people objecting.

Now a reserved matters application, detailing how it will look and how it will work, has been lodged with Tameside Council by Wain Homes.

Interesting read about the council tax and priorities just up the road in Burnley

Last night The Green Party passed what is perhaps the last meaningful and most progressive budget of Burnley Council. As part of the coalition the party helped shape Burnley's medium term future.
The focus with partners has been bringing youth provision alive. The council pledged financial backing for a youth zone and new sports provision across the borough. This will include 2 new 3G pitches and new padel courts.

On top of this, a new business development officer for Towneley Hall to build events for everyone, was agreed. This will also include renewing the youth offer, as well as bringing new activities for all.
Alongside this ,there are extra resources for streetscene to be tough on fly tipping and dog fouling with investment in enforcement. Time and again residents are angry and rightly so, this will offer hope that together we can tackle the problem.

The extra money for cleaning our streets is extremely welcome. Streetscene have made huge improvements over the past couple of years, and this money will allow them to do much more to make sure Burnley is clean and tidy, and catch those that treat backstreets and greenspaces as their own personal dumps.

The coalition has had an open door policy and agreed to suggested amendments from the Labour group on the food bank in Padiham , a swimming lesson initiative for children and a bigger appetite for the already fantastic empty homes programme.

Unfortunately, the coalition needed to raise council tax by 1.99% to do so but is much lower than the Reform tax of 3.98 at LCC , whilst cutting services. The Conservative party argued for a 0.99% rise but also wanted a 3G pitch in Habergham! Trussonomics in this case would leave a gaping hole in future budgets of the council and unitary. By cutting the estate budget and relying on business development it perhaps puts Burnley on course with austerity for future generations. We want our lettuce to flourish not to wither and die.

On the whole a fantastic debate , the town is gearing up for a year of culture , more robust services , investment in our youth and safeguarding protection of the vulnerable, such as downtown and damp and mould enforcement via selective licensing. The budget is balanced , honest and heartfelt for a better Burnley. Thanks to all coalition partners.
