🌸 LET’S MAKE ATTLEBOROUGH BLOOM AGAIN 🌸

I am delighted to announce that my proposal for Attleborough Town Council to take greater ownership of our town’s planters and floral displays has been supported by the majority of the committee, with one member voting against the proposal.

Over recent months, I have received a number of comments and complaints from residents and local businesses about how unkempt, tired and neglected parts of our town have become. Concerns have included the condition of our floral displays and the overgrown rose beds in the churchyard, which have become increasingly overtaken by brambles.

When residents and businesses are noticing these issues and taking the time to raise their concerns with us, I believe we have a responsibility to listen, take them seriously and consider what we can do differently to improve the appearance of our town.

We are incredibly fortunate to have a beautiful Queens Square and some wonderful public spaces, but they have so much more potential. Our planters and flower beds should be adding colour and character to the town, yet too often they have been left looking overgrown, empty or poorly maintained.

This isn’t about planting a few flowers every now and again. I want us to have a proper, long-term approach to maintaining and improving our displays throughout the seasons – including planting, watering, weeding, pruning and general upkeep.

🌺 NOW WE NEED YOU!

As part of the proposal, a dedicated working group will look at how we can improve our planters and floral displays and involve residents, volunteers, community organisations and local businesses.

I am therefore reaching out to members of our community who would like to get involved and help make a positive difference to our town.

You don’t need to be a professional gardener. Whether you’re green-fingered, have creative ideas, want to volunteer some time or simply have a passion for making Attleborough look its best, we’d love to hear from you.

I have also proposed a ‘Sponsor a Planter’ scheme, giving local businesses the opportunity to sponsor individual planters and displays, with a discreet plaque recognising their contribution. This could help generate additional funding while giving our business community an opportunity to play a direct role in improving the appearance of our town.

Attleborough has so much potential. Now we have an opportunity to bring people together and do something positive with it.

PUBLIC MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT

Attleborough Town Council – Tuesday 11 August 2026

Residents are advised that two Attleborough Town Council committee meetings will be taking place tomorrow evening at the Town Hall Chambers, Attleborough.

Both meetings are open to members of the public and press, and residents are encouraged to attend and follow the discussions on matters affecting our town.

PLANNING & HIGHWAYS COMMITTEE

Time: 6.30pm
Location: Town Hall Chambers

Among the matters being considered are:

* Planning applications, including proposals at Station Road, Haverscroft Farm and Warrens Lane
* Carvers Lane – concerns regarding open ditches and railing protection
* Blackthorn Road – road safety considerations in connection with the new trim trail
* London Road – request for an additional bus stop at the Blacksmith Lane end
* Norwich Road – update on the requested footway to and from The Gables
* Rosecroft Primary School – update on the proposed crossing
* Update on the search for new cemetery land

There are two public participation sessions on the agenda, giving residents an opportunity to raise matters with the committee.

ASSETS & OPEN SPACES COMMITTEE

Time: 7.00pm
Location: Town Hall Chambers

This is a particularly extensive agenda, with matters including:

* Attleborough Town Football Club – signage, buildings, lease discussions and an additional pitch for the women’s team
* Queen’s Square toilets – consideration of refurbishment, disability access, cleaning, CCTV and charging arrangements
* Town Hall – review of hire charges and current bar arrangements
* Town Centre Planters – future planting, maintenance and budget arrangements
* Play Areas – proposed upgrades at Cedar Drive, Norfolk Drive and the Recreation Ground
* Blackthorn Road – update on the trim trail
* Jubilee Country Park – update on the transfer of land
* Allotments – consideration of CCTV and plots currently held for community use
* Gaymer’s Meadow – improvements to the access
* Tree Management across Council-owned land
* Church Clock – future maintenance arrangements
* Carnival 2027 – request for use of the Recreation Ground
* Developer Contributions (S106)

🌟 ATTLEBOROUGH WELCOMES TWO NEW TOWN COUNCILLORS 🌟

Following yesterday’s Town Council by-elections, I would like to congratulate Councillor Sue Marsh, who has been elected to represent Burgh & Haverscroft Ward, and Councillor Jacqueline Kaidas, who has been elected to represent Queens Ward on Attleborough Town Council.

I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to the other candidates who put themselves forward. Standing for election is never easy, and everyone who chose to stand demonstrated a commitment to public service and a genuine desire to make a positive difference to our community. They all deserve recognition for their willingness to serve Attleborough.

I look forward to welcoming our newly elected councillors and working alongside them, fellow councillors and our residents to continue improving and strengthening our wonderful town. By working together, we can achieve positive outcomes for the whole community.

Once again, congratulations to our newly elected councillors, and thank you to everyone who took the time to vote. Your participation is an important part of local democracy.

Residents Update – Former DNA Vapes Premises, Exchange Street

Following concerns raised with me by a number of residents regarding the former DNA Vapes premises on Exchange Street, I have reported the matter to the relevant authorities for investigation.

Several residents have commented that the decoration at the front of the premises closely resembles that of previous v**e shops, and naturally this has caused some concern within the community. While this does not necessarily mean the premises will be used for that purpose, I believe it is important that residents concerns are taken seriously and investigated.

My priority is to ensure residents can be reassured that every reasonable step is being taken to safeguard our community, particularly our children and young people.

As your County Councillor, I will continue to raise concerns on your behalf. I will keep you updated and share any further information as soon as I receive a response.

🚍 PUBLIC NOTICE – BUS SERVICE CHANGES FOR ATTLEBOROUGH 🚍

From Sunday 30 August, First Bus will be making changes to its bus network.

These services are commercially operated and are not tendered or subsidised by Norfolk County Council. First Bus has advised that the changes have been made to help keep the services financially sustainable.

The main change for Attleborough is that the 13/X13 Turquoise service will no longer operate.

The good news is that Attleborough will continue to have a First Bus service. Service 14 will be extended from Wymondham to Attleborough, ensuring the town remains connected to Norwich.

Key changes:
🚌 13/X13 Turquoise service withdrawn.
🚌 Service 14 extended to Attleborough.
📅 Changes take effect from Sunday 30 August 2026.

If you regularly travel by bus, please check the updated timetable before you travel to ensure you catch the correct service.

🚧 Update – Queens Road Pedestrian Crossing Works 🚧

Further to my post on 21/07/26, please find attached the official Temporary Traffic Regulation Order issued by Norfolk County Council.

The works to install the new pedestrian crossing on Queens Road (B1077) are scheduled to take place in two phases:

🚧 Phase 1: 17–28 August 2026
• Queens Road will be closed to through traffic (pedestrian access will remain available).

🌙 Phase 2: 2–6 September 2026
• Overnight road closures only between 8:00pm and 6:00am.

The works are currently expected to be completed by 6 September 2026, although the Order allows the closure to remain in place until 18 October 2026 if additional time is required.

Signed diversion routes will be in place throughout the works, and access to properties within the closure will be maintained where possible.

Please allow extra time for your journey during this period, and thank you for your patience while these important road safety improvements are carried out.

Last evening, I had the privilege of attending a very special ceremony hosted by Attleborough Town Council to honour Vera Dale with the title of Honorary Alderwoman.

This recognition is a fitting tribute to Vera’s many years of dedicated service to Attleborough Town Council and to our community. It was a pleasure to be present as this well-deserved honour was formally bestowed.

At times like these, it reminds us of the importance of public service and the difference that dedicated individuals can make to their communities. It is now more important than ever that Attleborough Town Council continues Vera’s legacy by working together to proudly serve our community with the same dedication, commitment and sense of duty that she demonstrated throughout her years of service. 🏅💕

Just a reminder that our Councillor Surgery is taking place this Saturday, 25th July, from 9:30am to 11:30am at Attleborough Town Hall.
