BASICS Scotland is a registered charity, a voluntary emergency service and is supported by Medical Professionals serving the public. Our responders are entirely dedicated volunteers who sacrifice precious family and work time with employer support, their interests especially Pre-Hospital care but more so.. they place themselves in a hostile environment without hesitation, to care and support inju

red patients prior to receiving definitive hospital care. Our Responders work closely with our Multi-agency partners :Scottish Ambulance Service, Police , RAF Search & Rescue, Mountain Rescue Coast Guard and Fire & Rescue Services.

What a fabulous weekend of learning!

A fantastic few days of PHEC, bringing together enthusiastic clinicians for hands-on learning, challenging scenarios, shared experiences and plenty of great discussion.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us, and to our brilliant faculty for sharing their time, knowledge and expertise. It’s always inspiring to see people learning together, building confidence and developing the skills needed to deliver high-quality pre-hospital emergency care.

July was certainly one to remember!

It has been another incredibly busy month for the BASICS Scotland team and our amazing faculty.

📚 322 university students trained across two university programmes, helping prepare the next generation of healthcare professionals for pre-hospital emergencies.

🚑 PHEC Course – Stirling delivered, equipping clinicians with the knowledge and practical skills to manage medical and trauma emergencies in the pre-hospital environment.

🏔️ Three Core Skills Days – Gairloch, bringing high-quality emergency care education directly to remote and rural clinicians.

A huge thank you to every one of our instructors who continue to give their time, expertise and enthusiasm to support clinicians across Scotland.

Together, we're ensuring more healthcare professionals have access to the skills and confidence they need to deliver excellent pre-hospital emergency care, wherever they practise.

Every call. Every response. Every volunteer. Making a difference.

We are very proud of the incredible work delivered by our volunteer clinical responders, made possible through the ongoing support of The Sandpiper Trust.

2025 was another busy year, with our responders attending 836 incidents across Scotland, providing immediate expert care in support of Scottish Ambulance Service. From cardiac arrests and major trauma to medical emergencies and everything in between, our volunteers help strengthen the pre-hospital response and improve patient care in communities across the country.

This impact simply wouldn't be possible without the dedication of our volunteer responders and the unwavering support of The Sandpiper Trust, who invested over £81,000 during 2025 to support our responder network and fixed resources.

To every volunteer, every supporter and our colleagues in the Scottish Ambulance Service, thank you for your continued partnership. Together, we're delivering high-quality immediate care and helping save lives across Scotland.

Day 5 of 5 at the University of Dundee!

That's a wrap on another fantastic week delivering the fundamentals of pre-hospital medical emergencies to more than 250 fourth-year medical students.

The impact of this week's teaching:
250+ fourth-year medical students
759 hours of pre-hospital emergency care education delivered
120 hours offer by our volunteer instructors

A huge thank you to our incredible volunteer faculty. Their willingness to give their time and share their expertise is what makes programmes like this possible. We also extend our thanks to the Medicine, University of Dundee for continuing to support the development of future clinicians in pre-hospital emergency care.

Together, we're helping build the next generation of doctors, one patient assessment at a time.

Today, on International Paramedics Day, we celebrate the incredible paramedics who dedicate their careers to saving lives, often in the most challenging circumstances.

At BASICS Scotland, we're proud that a large proportion of our multidisciplinary faculty and responder network are paramedics. They bring a wealth of knowledge, experience and passion to every call and course they do.

Their commitment doesn't end when their shift does. By volunteering their time to teach and respond, they are helping to improve pre-hospital care for patients in communities throughout the country.

To all paramedics, especially those who support BASICS Scotland, thank you for your professionalism, compassion and unwavering dedication. We couldn't do what we do without you.
