Welcome back!

It has been wonderful to have the children back in school this week. A particularly warm welcome to all of our new children and families – we hope your first week as part of the Weare community has been a really positive one.

This week has focused on helping everyone settle back into school life. Our Back to Basics Writing Week has revisited key writing skills, while lots of time has been spent on routines, our behaviour curriculum and our expectations of Be Ready, Be Respectful and Be Safe.

We’ve been busy behind the scenes over the summer! 💙

Our Pre-School, Year 1 and Year 4 classrooms have all had beautiful new flooring installed, giving the spaces a fresh new look ready for our children to return.

We love how the new floors have helped create bright, calm and welcoming learning environments for our children. 🌿📚

👋 Welcome to Our Classroom!

We would love to invite parents and carers to come along to our 'Meet the Teacher & Discover the Year Ahead' sessions.

Monday 14th September

This is a chance to meet your child’s teacher, find out what they will be learning this year, see some of the resources they will be using and hear how you can support learning at home.

Each year group has its own short time slot to help families with more than one child attend different sessions.

📚 Year 1: 2:45–2:55
📚 Year 2: 2:55–3:05
📚 Year 3: 3:05–3:15
📚 Year 4: 3:15–3:25

Refreshments will be available in the hall, where we will also be collecting your feedback.

If you are unable to attend, the class teacher will share the PowerPoint presentation on ClassDojo afterwards so you do not miss the information.

🦋 Thank You for Your Incredible Support 🦋

We are delighted to share an update on our fundraising for the all-weather outdoor classroom, which will be created in memory of our much-loved colleague, Alysia Sampson. Thanks to the amazing generosity of our school and wider community, we have now raised an incredible £4,690.90!

This fantastic total includes:
⭐ £1,855 raised from the Teacher Inflatable Race at Sports Day
⭐ £577.90 from Sports Day drink sales and the ever-popular 'Soak the Teachers'
⭐ £2,258 raised at the wonderful Race Night organised by Alysia's family at On-The-Rocks in Cheddar

On behalf of everyone at Weare Academy, thank you to every single person who has donated, attended an event or supported our fundraising. Your kindness is helping us create a lasting legacy that future generations of children will enjoy for years to come.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Alysia's family – Karen, Clint, Michala, Henry, Maisie and Megan – for their unwavering support. We are also incredibly grateful to Kate Miles for organising the Race Night, Tuckers Fish & Chips for their sponsorship, and On-The-Rocks for generously providing the venue.

Finally, a special thank you to Henry and James from Bale Joinery, who have kindly gifted a beautiful memorial bench for our Pre-School in Alysia's memory. It now has pride of place in our Pre-School Forest School area, offering a peaceful space for children and staff to sit, reflect and remember for many years to come.

It was a pleasure to welcome Mr Gavin Ball, CEO of Wessex Learning Trust, to our school on the final day of term as he visited to say goodbye before his retirement.

During his visit, Mr Ball presented our Year 4 children with their Bibles from the Diocese, marking an important milestone in their journey. He also took the opportunity to thank our staff for their dedication and commitment, reflecting on the difference they make every day to the lives of our pupils.

Before leaving, Mr Ball shared some thoughtful words of wisdom, encouraging us all to look to the future with confidence and kindness.

Everyone at our school wishes Mr Ball a long, happy and fulfilling retirement. Thank you Mr Ball and all the very best for the future.
