Axminster Town Council remembers Sapper Henry Quinlan
of the Royal Engineers who died on the 31st of August 1940, aged 37.
He is buried at Axminster Town Cemetery, one of a number of Commonwealth War Graves.

“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old.
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning,
We will remember them. ”

Good morning, Axminster.

We have received details of four road closures that may affect our residents, and we outline each one in turn below:

1) TTRO 2672347 - Stammery Hill / Sector Lane.
Tuesday 1st September to Saturday 5th September (inclusive)
between the hours of 7am til 7pm daily.

To allow for the application of surface dressing (highways).

2) TTRO 2672272 - Cannington Lane, Uplyme
Saturday 19th September to Sunday 20th September (inclusive).
between hours of 8am to 5pm SAT / 12 noon to 7pm SUN.

To provide a safe walking route for the Cannington Viaduct event.

3) TTRO 2672274 - Monkton Wild to Blackpool Corner.
Monday 19th October to Tuesday 27th October (inclusive)
between the hours of 7PM to 7AM (overnight) each day.

To allow for application of road markings.

4) TTRO 2671846 - Axminster Town Centre.
(South Street, Silver Street, Church Street, West Street, Trinity Square)
Sunday 8th November 2026 (Remembrance Day)
Between 10.30am and 11am (1/2 hour)

To facilitate a temporary rolling road closure (with stewards / marshals and portable signage)

𝗩𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘂𝗻𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝘁𝗼𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘁𝘀

In the last week, we have experienced another upsurge in anti-social behaviour, vandalism and damage in the public loos by the West Street car park.

The perpetrator of the graffiti has been identified and is being dealt with by the local Police team.

Sadly, yesterday, an individual took it upon themselves to smear faeces across the pan, the seat, the walls, the floor, the sinks and the hand-drier in the Ladies facility. Aside from being a significant human health hazard, it is simply not reasonable for EDDC cleaning staff to have to deal with animalistic behaviour of this kind.

This is an annual event to allow the amazing carnival to take place.

𝗘𝗺𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆, 𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝗹𝗼𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝘁𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘀 𝟲𝟳 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝟮𝟴 𝘁𝗼 𝗪𝗼𝗼𝗱𝗯𝘂𝗿𝘆 𝗪𝗮𝘆.

Following a report from a member of the public about a rotten board on one of the two connecting bridges at this location, our grounds team attended this morning to conduct an initial safety assessment of the bridge surface and handrails and to see whether replacing one board would suffice.

Unfortunately, the rot may be extensive enough to warrant a proper inspection and repair by Devon County Council.

We have temporarily closed the footpath for public safety, and we are now awaiting further advice from Devon County Council. We hope the repair will be relatively straightforward and that we can reopen this route soon. We apologise for the inconvenience, as we know this is a popular walking route.

In the meantime. Please respect the closure and don't take risks; there is quite a drop below this particular bridge, and we would hate for someone to be injured.

Good morning Axminster.

Thanks to all the community-spirited residents who alerted us to a possible safety hazard in South Street. We have reported this to the relevant authority but have also created a temporary pathway closure to create a “falling zone” to ensure public safety. Please be aware and take all reasonable precautions as you pass by. Thank you. [South Street by old “little Co-op”]
