Another couple of school open days to share!

Mrs Ethelstones in Uplyme , Marshwood Primary and Seaton Primary are all holding open days for families whose children will be starting school in September 2027.

🌼 Meet the Team – Larissa 🌼

Larissa has been at Tick Tocks for three years, starting her journey with us as an apprentice. She is now Level 2 qualified and works full-time in our baby and toddler room, where she has grown in confidence, gained valuable experience and built lovely connections with the children. 💛

Larissa enjoys planning and carrying out a variety of activities to support the children’s learning while having lots of fun! Her favourites are crafts and music time, and she loves setting up the room with different toys and activities for the children to explore and enjoy. 🎨🎶

Outside of nursery, Larissa lives in Axminster and enjoys reading, watching movies and getting creative with crafts. 📚✨

🍂🚜 Autumn fun with Drama Tots! 🚜🍂

The children enjoyed a wonderful session full of music, movement and imagination! We danced with scarves, moving them like the wind, before hopping on our pretend tractor to help the farmer pull carrots from the ground, pick apples from the trees and harvest sweetcorn! 🥕🍎🌽

We sang “Old MacDonald Had a Farm” and listened to clues to guess the animals. The children did brilliantly at working out the answers! 🐷🐮🐑

Next, we became trees, swaying in the wind and letting our leaves fall—an activity the children loved!

To finish our adventure, we pretended to put on our wellies and coats and took a walk through the “rain”, with bubbles floating around us! 🫧🌧️

September in Preschool – All About Me! 🏡

This month, we’ve been exploring what makes each of us special! The children painted self-portraits, noticing differences in our hair, eye and skin colours, alongside similarities such as having two eyes, two arms and two legs. 💛

We talked about who lives in our homes and who is in our families, drawing some lovely family pictures. Thank you for uploading your family photos—the children loved looking at them and talking about the people special to them! 📸

We also explored our bodies, finding pictures hidden in a rice tray and using them to name and label different body parts.

Our sensory tuff trays offered plenty of opportunities to explore sand and cornflour, use pipettes and discover different textures while developing fine motor skills. The children also enjoyed making family members with playdough! 👐

Using crepe paper and spray bottles, we created colourful pictures for our All About Me collage and chatted about our likes and dislikes. 🎨

We also welcomed Drama Tots for an All About Me session! The children explored feelings and joined in with a self-care action song: “This is the way we brush our teeth…” 🪥🎶

A lovely month of getting to know ourselves and each other! 💛

🍂 In October, we’ll be exploring Autumn, Harvest and Halloween! Our home learning ideas, displayed on our front door, will support the children in exploring natural materials. Take a look for ideas to enjoy together at home! 🎃

🌼 Meet the Team – Izzy 🌼

Izzy joined Tick Tocks in 2017 as an apprentice and has grown in confidence and ability, progressing to supervisor of our baby and toddler room. 💛

Izzy describes working with children as one of the most rewarding jobs. She loves helping them learn and grow, supporting their development, celebrating their achievements and watching friendships blossom before they move on to their next big adventure.

She enjoys creating weekly and termly plans, finding fresh ideas, crafts and activities for the children to explore, have fun and thrive! 🎨✨

Izzy also says that working with such an amazing team is a big part of what makes Tick Tocks special, helping everyone work together to support the children.

Outside of work, Izzy lives in Seaton with her husband and son. She enjoys spending time with family, going for walks and enjoying days out, especially trips to the theatre or zoo! 🎭🦁

Izzy is currently on maternity leave and will be returning in the new year. We can’t wait to welcome her back! 💕

🌈 A colourful September in our Baby and Toddler Room!

This month, the children have enjoyed exploring colour through messy play, everyday toys and resources. From painting with their hands, brushes and tools to investigating colourful sensory activities, there have been plenty of opportunities to explore, create and discover! 🎨

We have also created rainbows and enjoyed using coloured scarves and maracas with our “Shake, Shake” song, developing rhythm, listening skills and responding to simple instructions. 🎶

We’ve shared so many lovely books together and hope the children have enjoyed their home learning bags and stories at home too! Thank you for sharing these moments on Tapestry—it’s been wonderful to see families supporting the children’s next steps and our focus on enjoying books together. 📚💛

As September comes to an end, we’ll be moving into our autumn theme, continuing to explore colours and discover the world around us through natural materials and hands-on exploration. 🍂

Our toddlers will soon bring home autumn bags to collect treasures on their walks with you, ready to investigate at home and nursery. We can’t wait to see what they find! 🍁

📸 We’re going faceless! 💛

We have previously obscured children’s faces in our social media photos to protect their privacy. After reviewing our approach, we feel it is right to go a step further and no longer share images of children’s faces, even when covered or blurred. This will further protect their privacy and strengthen our safeguarding approach. 💛

This means we’ll be sharing fewer photos, but we’ll continue to keep you updated with nursery news, what the children are learning and the new skills they are developing. 🌱

Our posts are only a small glimpse of nursery life. The children enjoy so many activities, resources and opportunities through their everyday play and continuous provision, supported by our caring staff team.

There is always much more happening than we can capture in a post—little discoveries, conversations, friendships and achievements that make each day special! 💛

🌼 Meet the Team – Gaynor 🌼

Gaynor has been at Tick Tocks for eight years and is a valued member of our team. She brings a wealth of experience and great organisational skills, making her a real asset to our preschool. 💛

Gaynor also regularly helps in our baby room, where she enjoys getting to know the babies and toddlers and building lovely relationships with them.

In preschool, Gaynor leads our supervised toothbrushing scheme and enjoys joining in with the children’s play, helping to extend their learning and development. ✨

Outside of Tick Tocks, Gaynor lives in Axminster with her husband and has two sons. She enjoys spending time in her gardening & Line dancing and also helps with the local Brownie group. 🌿
