The primary role of the Station is to contribute to the operational effectiveness of the Armed Forces by the timely provision of trained military and civilian personnel to the correct standard and within resource. Our biggest outputs include Basic Recruit Training and Command and Leadership Training. RAF Halton also has a number of lodger units covering a vast selection of specialities ranging fro

m air activity to defence media operations. As such RAF Halton is home to approximately 2100 personnel from all three Services, foreign military, contractors and civilians, making Halton a truly diverse team that works together to ensure excellence in the delivery of training.

80 young people. Two days. One question: what does life in the RAF really look like? ✈️

Earlier this month, RAF Halton opened its doors for our first ever Future Forces Day, giving young people aged 10 - 16 from across the local community the chance to find out for themselves.

From mission planning, policing and medicine to fieldcraft, drill, logistics and physical challenges, they didn’t just hear about life in the RAF, they got stuck in.

But Future Forces Day was about more than careers.

It was about teamwork, confidence, leadership, problem solving, trying something new and perhaps discovering an opportunity they had never considered before.

For some, it may even have changed their perception of what a future in the Armed Forces could look like.

A huge thank you to the RAF Halton personnel who gave their time, enthusiasm and expertise to make our first Future Forces Day such a success, and to all 80 young people who threw themselves into every challenge. 👏

🎓FROM CIVILIANS TO RAF AVIATORS; BECKETT 789 HAVE GRADUATED! 👏

A huge congratulations to the recruits of Beckett 789 Intake, who today proudly graduated from RAF Halton after successfully completing their 10-week Basic Recruit Training Course. 🎉

Made up of No. 3 Flight and No. 4 Flight, these newest members of the Royal Air Force have spent the past 10 weeks being challenged, tested and developed, transforming from civilians into trained RAF Aviators ready to begin the next chapter of their careers. 💪

The graduation parade was reviewed by Gp Capt J Hetherington MA CMgr FCMI MCIPD RAF, Commandant of the Aviator Training Academy, with the Band of the British Army Tidworth providing the musical backdrop. 🎺🥁

And what better way to mark the occasion than an A400M flypast, courtesy of 30 Sqn, RAF Brize Norton! ✈️

To every recruit who stood proudly on that parade square today — well done. You earned it.

The hard work has paid off, the training is complete, and now the adventure really begins.

Aviator Training Academy Command Handover

On 30 July 2026, RAF Halton marked an important milestone for the Aviator Training Academy (AvTA) with the formal handover of Command.

After two years of dedicated leadership, Gp Capt Hetherington handed over Command to Gp Capt Toothill, who now takes on the role of Commandant Aviator Training Academy.

Speaking at the ceremony, Gp Capt Toothill said:

“On behalf of everyone within the Aviator Training Academy I would like to thank Gp Capt Hetherington for his hard work and commitment over the last 2 years. I am really excited to be here and look forward to continuing his work alongside the outstanding personnel that make up the Academy and RAF Halton. We wish him all the very best for the future.”

We thank Gp Capt Hetherington for his service and leadership over the past two years and wish Gp Capt Toothill every success as she begins this new chapter leading the Aviator Training Academy.

Celebrating our Reservists

Congratulations to Basic Recruit Training Course 221 (Reservists), who proudly graduated on 25 July 2026.

After completing their training, 27 recruits have now earned their place as the newest Reservist Aviators to join the Royal Air Force. A huge achievement and the beginning of an exciting journey of service, challenge and opportunity.

The Reviewing Officer at Saturday’s graduation was Air Cdre John “JW” Wariner MA BSc(Hons) CEng FIET FBCS RAF, who presented the following awards:

🏆 AR Chantrey – LAC Osborne Trophy for Top Recruit
🎯 AR Johnson – SAC Gary Thompson Memorial Trophy for Top Shot
👏 AR Olsen – Recruits’ Recruit
⭐ AR Farnon – Most Improved Recruit

We would also like to recognise Air Cdre Wariner, whose distinguished RAF career has spanned command, operations, cyber, space, communications and digital capability. His experience and continued commitment as an RAF Reserve make him a fitting Reviewing Officer for this important milestone.

To all 27 graduates: Well done! Your hard work, determination and teamwork have brought you to this point. We wish you every success as you begin the next chapter of your RAF Reserve careers.

Yesterday RAF Halton celebrated our annual friends and families day. This is an opportunity for station to enjoy an afternoon with our nearest and dearest. ☀️🍻
