Exploitation doesn’t stop during the school holidays – in fact, risks can increase when routines change and young people may be more vulnerable.

Spending more time online, being out in the community, or away from usual support networks can create opportunities for those looking to exploit.

👉 Stay aware, stay connected, and know the signs.
👉 If something doesn’t feel right, speak up.

This week is Child Accident Prevention Week 2026 ⭐

Under‑5s learn by exploring! The Child Accident Prevention Trust (CAPT) offers free, practical resources to help families prevent the most common and serious accidents at home, including burns, button batteries, choking, drowning, falls, fire safety, poisoning and more.

Top Safety Tips for Little Ones:
🔥 Keep hot drinks and pans out of reach. Hot drink burns are a major cause of injury.
🔋 Store button batteries safely and check toys/remotes. Swallowing one can cause life‑threatening harm.
🍇 Prevent choking by cutting food into small pieces and staying close while they eat.
💧 Stay within arm’s reach around water. Drowning happens silently and quickly.
🪜 Secure windows and use blind‑cord safety to reduce risks of falls and strangulation.
🧴 Store cleaning products and laundry capsules out of sight and reach to prevent poisoning.

CAPT has lots of information and resources on their website 👉 https://capt.org.uk/child-safety-advice/

Making plans for the weekend? 🌞

If you will be near rivers, lakes or the coast, take extra care around open water. Even on hot days, cold water shock can happen suddenly, so please stay cautious 🌊

If you see someone in difficulty:
📲Call 999 immediately and ask for the Fire Service
💧Encourage the person to float on their back
🏊Throw rescue equipment if available
❎Never enter the water yourself to attempt a rescue

Entering the water could put you at risk from cold water shock and strong currents. Wait for our crews to arrive, they have specialist training and equipment.
