New update from Bucks Council for Aylesbury

Lane Rental Scheme

From Tuesday 5 May, we welcome the full launch and introduction of Buckinghamshire's β€˜Lane Rental: Streets Ahead’ scheme, designed to reduce disruption from road and street works on Buckinghamshire’s busiest routes.

Following a successful shadow running phase throughout April, the official introduction of the scheme will allow us to charge up to Β£2,500 per day for works carried out at peak times on 7.8% of the county’s network, roughly 500 key roads and streets. This will encourage utilities and contractors to plan more efficiently and complete works more quickly helping to minimise congestion, improve journey times and keep our towns and villages moving.

More detail about the scheme, including a map of where Lane Rental charges will apply, can be viewed online at:

From May 2026, we will be charging statutory undertakes a rental fee for carrying out highway works in Buckinghamshire as an incentive to carry out works as quickly and with less disruption.
