Short-Term Let Refused – A Win for Our Community
After years of consistent objections from the Community Council, I welcome the refusal of the Short-Term Let licence for this property.
This has never been about opposing tourism or responsible letting. It has always been about protecting residents in shared buildings where issues like closed or restricted fire exits, unsafe stairwells, and unmanaged access create real and serious risks.
People deserve to feel safe in their own homes. When properties are used as short-term lets in tenements or shared blocks, the impact is not just on neighbours — it raises wider concerns around fire safety, security, and accountability.
For too long, these concerns were raised and not properly addressed. This decision shows that community voices do matter, and that persistence counts.
I want to thank everyone who has supported these objections over the years — residents who spoke up, documented issues, and refused to be ignored.
We will continue to push for proper regulation, enforcement, and a balanced approach that supports both local communities and a sustainable visitor economy.
This is a step in the right direction.
