Phill, Jas, Dean, Adam & Jacob attended this incident and were first on scene. The building was well alight so we requested additional fire appliances to support in the efforts to tackle the blaze and secure an ongoing water supply.

Our advice would be that if you have out buildings with animals in them, consider the installation of smoke and/or heat alarms that can notify you in the event of a fire at the earliest stages.

Devastating news 💔

Four dogs died in a devastating fire that destroyed a kennel building in Devon last night.

The fire broke out in Shillingford on the Devon-Somerset border, near Bampton, at around 9.35pm on Sunday (April 19).

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue said it received a report of a large fire at a shed that was being used as kennels.

As firefighters arrived on scene, the building was described as well alight and four fire engines and a water bowser were deployed to the scene.

The fire service said the building was severely damaged by fire.

Sadly, it has since confirmed to DevonLive that four dogs died in the blaze.

Firefighters from Bampton, Dulverton, Wellington and Wiveliscombe attended the fire, which engulfed a building measuring 15 metres by 11 metres.

Jets, a thermal imaging camera and breathing apparatus were required to bring the fire under control, with crews understood to have remained on scene for several hours.

Phill, Carly, Dean, Adam & Jas were called to attend a wildfire on Monday night alongside Dulverton Fire Station and South Molton Fire Station.

On arrival, crews were presented with a fire front covering in excess of a mile in multiple seats so additional resources were requested with Wiveliscombe Fire Station and Barnstaple Fire Station attending plus all terrain vehicles from Lynton Fire Station and Middlemoor Fire Station.

After hours of very hard work and a lot of steps across difficult terrain the crews were able to extinguish the fire.

DSFRS spent most of Christmas Day dealing with a large heathland fire near West Anstey, Exmoor.

A crew from Dulverton was mobilised to smoke seen coming from the ridge of West Anstey Common.

Upon arrival the crew confirmed a 60 metre fire front and requested a second Pump.

Over time this was then escalated to 6 Pumps and a Water Carrier, as well as a number of Specialist Officers and two ATVs.

The fire is now believed to have been extinguished and crews have left the scene.

Bampton Fire Station would like to introduce their newest member of the crew, Luke Edwards.

Luke, a long with his wife and 3 kids, has lived in Bampton for nearly 9 years. He runs his own electrical company specialising in controls and automation.
He assists at a martial arts academy, enjoys MMA training and teaching, and coastal and moorland walks with the family.

Luke says ' I've wanted to join the service for a while now, but due to other commitments it wasn't possible. Now things have settled, it felt like the right time.'

After a tough few weeks, Luke has passed his Initial Training, Road Traffic collision and his Breathing Apparatus courses. He is officially 'on the run' as a newly fledged member of the crew.

Congratulations Luke! Welcome to the team. 🥳
