Come along to Drum Castle for an autumnal tour around the award-winning walled garden, led by our Head Gardener Laurence Daguin.

𓇢𓆸 Come along to one of our special creative workshops to learn about – and build your own! – 3D paper seeds.

In 𝗦𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗙𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 - 𝟯𝗗 𝗣𝗮𝗽𝗲𝗿-𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗡𝗮𝗼𝗺𝗶 𝗠𝗰𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼𝘀𝗵, held in collaboration with the Ash Rise exhibition, Naomi will guide classes in understanding how ash seeds spin, glide and float before putting these lessons to practical use.

🪑 Join our collection team to get a sneak peek at some seriously cool furniture and uncover the stories behind the pieces: explore their hidden features and accomplished craftsmanship. You will get to see behind the closed doors of many of our remarkable pieces and learn about their history.

⌛ Drum Castle's Timesliders project features in the latest NTS Love Scotland podcast!

🌳 The Ash Rise exhibition is on show until late October. We also have a linked walking trail!

The exhibition features ash sculptures, objects and furniture made by 20 different Scottish makers and is run in collaboration with the Scottish Furniture Makers Association, the Association Of Scottish Hardwood Sawmillers and Scottish Forestry. Entry is included as part of our tours and is free to NTS members.

The Ash Trail is a short low-level walk (0.5 mile / 1km) connecting the Drumhill Trail to the Old Wood of Drum Trail, taking in farmland, several ash trees and a great view of Bennachie.

💺 🪲 Last Friday we enlisted the help of NTS placement students Eddie and Maggie to hermetically seal one of the collection armchairs in preparation for freezing off-site.

This chair was identified as being host to furniture beetle during recent surveys. Storing it in temperatures ranging from -30 to -45°C should eliminate all insect pests and help keep the chair in good condition to display in future.

By wrapping the chair in layers of acid-free tissue paper then sealing it with polyethylene sheeting, it will be protected from moisture in the air freezing and damaging the fabric and wood.

The chair will remain in the freezer for four days, then allowed to acclimate to room temperature before being brought back to its rightful place.
