Sometimes…

When you choose There4You homehelp, you’re not choosing a large team of carers, a rota of unfamiliar faces or someone different turning up each week.

Consistency – the same person supporting you means I get to know your routines, your preferences, your personality and what makes you you.

Familiarity – particularly for someone living with dementia, having a familiar face can provide reassurance and reduce the anxiety that can come with constantly meeting new people.

Trust – good care isn't just about completing a list of tasks. It’s about building a relationship where you feel comfortable, respected and listened to.

Person-centred support – I have the time to get to know you, your needs and what matters to you.

A relationship with the person who provides your care – not a call centre or office where you have to explain everything again.

My business may be small.

But that doesn't mean my care is.

I bring years of experience, specialist knowledge and skills, but, most importantly, a genuine commitment to the people I support.

I believe there is something incredibly valuable about being the person who gets to know a client and their family over time.

Seeing the little changes.

Knowing how they take their tea.

Small isn't second best.

Keysafes can be a really good idea for people living alone, especially the elderly or someone living with underlying health conditions.

A keysafe isn't just about convenience — it can provide peace of mind, reassurance and a safer way of accessing someone's home when help is needed.

🏠 How can a keysafe help?

👨‍👧‍👦 Family members can access the home if their loved one needs support, without having to hide a spare key.

👩‍⚕️ Carers can enter safely when providing care or support, particularly when someone may struggle to answer the door.

🚑 Emergency services may be able to gain quicker access in an emergency.

❤️ It can provide reassurance for someone living alone — knowing that trusted people can get into their home if they need help.

🌿 It can support independence by helping someone remain safely in their own home for longer, rather than relying on someone being there to answer the door.

⚠️ However, a keysafe needs to be used properly. It should be securely fitted, positioned discreetly and the access code should only be shared with trusted people. It's also important to regularly review who has the code and change it when necessary.

💷 Did you know? You may be entitled to a Council Tax reduction if you have dementia

If you or someone you care for is living with dementia, it’s worth checking whether you could be entitled to a Council Tax discount or exemption.

Under the Council Tax rules, some people with dementia may qualify for a Severe Mental Impairment (SMI) disregard.

Depending on the circumstances, this could mean:

🏡 Up to 100% Council Tax exemption if the person lives alone or everyone else in the household is also disregarded.

💷 A 25% reduction may apply where a person with a qualifying severe mental impairment lives with another adult who is liable for Council Tax.

To qualify, there are specific criteria. A medical professional, such as a GP, will generally need to certify that the person has a severe impairment of intelligence and social functioning that appears to be permanent. The person must also meet the relevant benefit criteria.

It is not automatically applied — you need to apply to your local council.

👉 If you are supporting someone living with dementia, I would encourage you to check with your local council to see whether they may be eligible.

🩹🩺🩸Keeping brushed up on my First Aid knowledge 🩸🩺🩹

I've been busy completed my Emergency First Aid refresher training this morning.

I am pleased to have achieved 100% on my knowledge quiz and have recieved my certificate of achievement.

It’s so important to keep knowledge current and be prepared to help in any situation.

🏡👟 👣 Shoes on or off? 👣 👟🏡

Something quite simple that I always think about when I first meet a new client is house rules 🏡

One of the first things I would ask when entering someone's home is:

“Would you like me to take my shoes off?” 👣

It might seem like a small question, but I believe these little things matter.

Your home is your space, your comfort zone and your rules. As a carer, I am entering that space to support you — so I feel it is important to establish those boundaries and preferences from the very beginning.

For some people, shoes off is a must.

For others, shoes can stay on.

Neither is right or wrong — what matters is what makes the person comfortable in their own home. ❤️

Asking rather than assuming is, for me, a simple way of showing mutual respect.

Good care isn't just about the practical tasks. It's about listening, respecting preferences, understanding boundaries and remembering that I am a guest in someone's home.

Sometimes, it's the little things that make the biggest difference. 🥰
