As part of Children of Foster Carers' Week, we'd like to shine a spotlight on My Place, Our Space - our new support group for children of foster families.

My Place, Our Space is a welcoming group for children, young people and young adults connected through fostering, adoption and special guardianship. It offers a safe space to meet others with shared experiences, take part in activities, make friends and have fun.

Growing up in a fostering family can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also bring unique challenges. Having a space where young people can connect with others who understand can make all the difference.

Because every young person's voice matters, and everyone deserves a place where they belong.

Hi my name is Ava-lily and my mum and dad have been fostering for 20 years !!!

Im only 13 and fostering is one of the best things i get to experience, my mum and dad have welcomed into our home many many many children . Some children have been more challenging than others but this has never changed my opinion on the fostering world.

When i’m older I would love to work in childcare and i think been around young children my whole life has made me want to do this job even more.

Children come into care and come live with us feeling anxious , scared and worried. I’ll always try and help that child by playing with them or even just sitting near them so they know im here to help them. I love having foster children in my home , it’s like having a new family member in my house.

My favourite thing about fostering is being able to help and support children and being able to give them a warm , welcoming home to live in.

I wouldn’t choose anything else over fostering its my favourite thing.

The Government has launched England’s first national fostering recruitment campaign, calling on more people to consider opening their homes and hearts to a child who needs them.

The need is just as urgent here in Barnsley. We need more local foster carers so that Barnsley children can grow up in safe, loving homes, close to their families, schools, friends and communities.

Cc, aged 14, has seen first-hand the positive impact fostering can have on children and young people. Through fostering, Cc has developed empathy, confidence and communication skills, while building connections with people from many different backgrounds.

Today marks the start of National Children of Foster Carers Week, a time to recognise the incredible role that birth children play in fostering families.

We're proud to share Bell's story and her experience of growing up in a fostering household; the challenges, the rewards, and the difference fostering has made to her life and the lives of the children who became part of her family.

Children of foster carers are a huge part of the fostering journey. They share their homes, their families, their time and their hearts, helping children feel welcomed, included and loved.

To all the amazing children and young people growing up in fostering families, thank you. Your kindness, patience, understanding and support help change lives every single day, and we truly appreciate everything you do.
