🌳πŸ’ͺ Today in the Stairfoot Ward πŸ’ͺ🌳

Another busy day for the team, working hard to keep our communities looking their best! πŸ‘

🌲 Ardsley Park
The day began at Ardsley Park, where the team responded to a tree that had lost a large limb overnight. While the Envirocentral team were on site, the issue was spotted and our team got straight to work, cutting up and safely removing the fallen branch to make the area safe again. πŸš›πŸͺ΅

🌼 Zig Zag Path
We then returned to the Zig Zag Path to cut back vegetation now that the wildflowers have gone to seed. This important pathway provides easy access to the bowling green for residents using mobility scooters and mobility aids, helping to keep the route open and accessible for everyone. β™ΏπŸŒΏ

πŸ₯• Cumberland Drive Allotments
Next stop was Cumberland Drive, where we cleared back overgrown vegetation along the access path leading to the allotments, making it easier and safer for plot holders to get to their gardens. πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈπŸŒ±

βœ‚οΈ Neville Avenue, Kendray
The team then headed over to Kendray to trim and tidy the circular hedge on Neville Avenue, giving the area a fresh and well-maintained appearance. 🌳✨

🌿 Bramble Removal
To finish the day, we tackled a large bramble bush behind the electrical substation, clearing the area and improving access and visibility. πŸ’ͺ🌱

βœ… Safer pathways
βœ… Improved access
βœ… Tidier green spaces

A fantastic day’s work by the team, making a real difference across the Stairfoot Ward! πŸ‘πŸ’š

🚜🌿 Specialist Equipment in the Central Area 🌿🚜

Today, Wraggy was out with the EnviroCentral Team using the powerful RoboFlail to tackle a very thick bramble patch next to the TPT car park at Worsbrough. πŸ’ͺ🌱

Unfortunately, this area has been plagued by fly-tippers, with dense vegetation providing cover for people to dump and hide rubbish. 🚯❌ Our aim today was to open up the space, improve visibility, and help protect this valuable green area from further abuse. πŸŒ³πŸ‘€

By clearing back the overgrowth, we’re making the site safer, more accessible, and far less attractive to those who choose to dispose of waste illegally. πŸ‘πŸŒΏ

πŸ‘ A fantastic effort by Wraggy and the EnviroCentral Team, working hard to keep our green spaces clean, safe, and welcoming for everyone to enjoy. πŸ’šπŸŒ

🌧️πŸ’ͺ Wet Work in Worsbrough! πŸ’ͺ🌧️

The rain certainly didn’t stop us today! 🌦️

πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈπŸŒΏ The team started the day at Maltas Court, clearing pathways of weeds and overgrown grass, as well as cutting back hedges that were creeping over boundaries. βœ‚οΈπŸŒ± This has helped improve access and tidied up the area for local residents. πŸ™Œ

πŸ€β™»οΈ Later, we joined forces with the Worsbrough Tidy Team, where 7 amazing volunteers and 1 local councillor braved the elements πŸŒ§οΈπŸ’¨ to help make a difference in the community.

πŸ—‘οΈπŸ‘ Together, the team collected an incredible 28 bags of litter! πŸŽ‰πŸ’š

A massive THANK YOU to everyone who turned out and showed such fantastic community spirit despite the weather. πŸŒŸπŸ’™ Your hard work is helping to keep Worsbrough clean, green, and a place we can all be proud of. 🌳🏑✨

Check Mates - Barnsley is a wonderful project taking place in the Central Ward funded by Central Ward Alliance. The project is a space for men to come together to connect, no pressure, no need to talk, just play or learn chess ❀️

If you'd like to know more, then get in touch with the group or turn up to a session for a warm welcome Wednesdays 6.30pm - 7.30pm at Billy’s Coffee Bar on Doncaster Road πŸ™Œ

Well, another great Wednesday at Billy’s Coffee Bar

Every board was in use, the conversations were flowing, and once again it was fantastic to see people from different walks of life sitting down together.

When I first started planning Check Mates around six months ago, I hoped it could become something that broke up the week a little for people who perhaps think a bit differently to others, much like myself. I can honestly say my expectations have already been surpassed, and we're only in week two.

The kindness, patience and understanding shown by complete strangers sat across a chess board is something quite magical.

Watching people help each other, teach each other, share stories and laugh together is more than I could have hoped for.

Thank you to every single person who has shown up, shared a post, told a friend, or recommended Check Mates to someone who might benefit from this kind of community.

And to the professionals, organisations and community groups who have been watching with curiosity, offering guidance and encouragement along the way; thank you too.

We're building something special, but like everything great it takes time and an open mind.

Same time next week? β™ŸοΈπŸ’«

🌧️πŸ’ͺ KINGSTONE COMMUNITY UPDATE πŸ’ͺ🌧️

The team were out bright and early this morning, not letting the rain stop us! πŸŒ¦οΈπŸ‘·β€β™‚οΈ

πŸ“ Nicholas Street
Today we tackled the backings on Nicholas Street, carrying out a full clearance from top to bottom. We also cut back the overgrown canopy in areas where residents had reported anti-social behaviour and drug use. πŸš«πŸ’Š

✨ By opening up these spaces, improving visibility, and removing overgrowth, we’re helping to make the area safer, cleaner, and more welcoming for everyone. 🏑🌳

🌿 Park Improvements
The team then moved on to both Plumber’s Park and Nicholas Street Park, where we:

βœ… Trimmed back bushes
βœ… Cleared weeds
βœ… Re-edged pathways
βœ… Cut back grass behind borders
βœ… Tidied and refreshed the parks throughout

The difference is incredible! πŸ‘πŸŒ±

🀝 Planning for the Future
We also had a fantastic meeting with Ian (Local Councillor), Craig (CDO), Lee, and some of our new volunteers. Together, we shared an exciting new vision for Nicholas Park that we will be working hard to deliver over the coming months. πŸš€πŸŒ³

πŸ’š A huge thank you to everyone who got involved today. Rain or shine, we’re committed to making Kingstone a cleaner, greener, and safer place for all.

πŸ”₯ Watch this space – exciting things are coming to Nicholas Park! πŸ”₯

At Central Park in Kendray, work through the Love Where You Live programme has helped refresh the space for all ages. This includes repainted play equipment, improved surfacing, a new spinny dish, refreshed floor markings and a refurbished zip wire in the Teen Zone. Thank you so much to the Barnsley Parks & Green Spaces team for all your hard work here.

Whether you’re heading out to play, be active or just enjoy some fresh air, it’s a great place to spend time with family and friends.

Love Where You Live is helping us create a Barnsley that feels vibrant and welcoming.

🌿πŸ’ͺ DAILY DEDICATION IN DODWORTH πŸ’ͺ🌿

Another productive day for the Environment Central Team! πŸ‘

Today we cut back and edged the footpaths from the KDA down to the Travellers, opening up the pathways and making them safer and more accessible for everyone walking through the area πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈπŸšΆβ€β™€οΈπŸŒ±

We then moved on to Station Road, cutting back the overgrown grass all the way to the level crossing βœ‚οΈπŸŒΎπŸš‰

The best part? These two jobs would normally have taken around two full days to complete, but the team smashed it all out in just one day! πŸ”₯πŸ’―

It’s fantastic to see the difference regular maintenance is making across our communities, with cleaner, tidier, and more welcoming spaces for residents to enjoy 🌳✨

🌧️πŸ’ͺ Heavy rain didn’t stop the Envirocentral team today! πŸ’ͺ🌧️

The team kicked off the morning by clearing three backings:

🏑 Everlyn Terrace
🏑 Junction Street to Sunderland Terrace
🏑 Between Junction Street and Sunderland Terrace

Amazing results included:

πŸ—‘οΈ 10 bags of litter collected
🌱 Weeding completed
🧹 Moss scraped away
♻️ Green waste removed

The team then headed to the 🌿 Harbour Hills Community Allotment to support Linda.

There they:

🌾 Strimmed areas of very tall grass
🌳 Opened up a new section of the allotment that had been overtaken by bushes
🚢 Cleared weeds from pathways
πŸͺ΅ Removed old fencing
🐸 Dug a small pond to create a habitat for frogs

The team also enjoyed meeting plenty of wildlife throughout the day, including 🐸 frogs, 🐝 bees and a πŸ•·οΈ nursery spider. One bee even decided to take a break on Mark’s back! πŸ˜„

πŸ‘ Another fantastic day of improving local green spaces and making a difference in the community, whatever the weather! πŸ’šπŸŒ

πŸŒŸπŸš› Envirocentral Community Action In Stairfoot πŸš›πŸŒŸ

🌞 This morning, the Envirocentral team responded to a councillor’s request at the seating area in front of Highgrove Care Home.

The team got straight to work:

πŸ—‘οΈ Collected 1 bag of litter
🌱 Removed weeds from the area
βœ‚οΈ Cut back overgrown ivy
🌿 Mowed the grass surrounding the seating area

✨ The area is now looking much tidier, safer, and more welcoming for residents and visitors alike.

πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈπŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ Following this, the team met up with local volunteers at Stairfoot Station on the Trans Pennine Trail (TPT).

🀝 While the volunteers carried out a litter pick across the site collecting 5 Bags of litter, the Envirocentral team:

🌳 Cut back overgrown hedges
🚜 Mowed the grass around the station and monuments
πŸ›οΈ Helped maintain and preserve the history and heritage of this important location

πŸ‘ A huge thank you to all the volunteers Dawn, Dave and Peter who gave up their time to help care for this fantastic community asset.

As part of the Love Where You Live programme, the play area at Stanhope Street in Kingstone has been refreshed with repainted play equipment, improved surfacing, and the addition of new bins and swings with tiger mulch underneath, helping create a safer place for children to play.

It’s a great spot for families to take a break, get some fresh air and enjoy a bit of outdoor time together. β˜€οΈ

Please help look after your local park by using bins and reporting any issues or anti‑social behaviour – it’s everyone’s space to enjoy.

We’re working to create a Barnsley that’s welcoming and vibrant for all.
