Barnsley Council Central Area Team For Central, Dodworth, Stainborough and Tankersley, Kingstone, Worsbrough and Stairfoot Wards. This is the page for the Central Area Team.

Our role is to support residents, community groups and Councillors to work together to improve our communities and quality of life for people who live here. Empowering and enabling indiviuals and groups to become pro active citizens and help shape their communities is what we do! The team comprimises Carol Brady, Martin Kenworthy, Michelle Toone and Pat Braithwaite

🌺 WORSBROUGH IN BLOOM & REMEMBERING 🌺 | CLEANING UP OUR COMMUNITY

It’s been another busy day for the EnviroCentral team out in Worsbrough! 💪

🌿 First stop: St Luke’s Church, Worsbrough Common, where we cut back the overgrowth around the Cenotaph War Memorial, helping keep this important place of remembrance looking its best.

🌳 Next up: Worsbrough Common Community Centre, where we trimmed back some low-hanging tree branches to make room for the arrival of a new storage container.

🌺 Remembering together: We then visited all four churches across Worsbrough St Mary’s, St Thomas’, Our Lady and St James’, and St Luke’s putting out poppies ready for Remembrance Day.

🚨 Keeping our communities safe: With the nights drawing in, we also continued installing anti-social behaviour signs in hotspot areas, helping raise awareness and reminding everyone how to report issues in their neighbourhood.

From maintaining our green spaces to honouring those who served and helping keep our communities safe, the EnviroCentral team is proud to play its part❤️

🌱 🤫 WE’VE BEEN KEEPING A SECRET IN KINGSTONE! 🌿🐦

For the past 4 weeks, Mark and Lily from EnviroCentral have been working behind the scenes with Horizon School’s after-school club, helping transform their old science garden into a fantastic, usable outdoor space for the children! 🌱👩‍🌾

We’ve been getting creative and making the most of what we have, from repurposing wheelie bins into water butts to teaming up with external partners like Howdens to collect old pallets. ♻️

And those pallets won’t go to waste! We’ll be using them to build compost bins, helping the children learn about recycling, reducing waste and creating their own compost to feed the garden. 🌿♻️

The children have also been getting hands-on with the project, helping work the land, painting and building bird boxes! 🐦🔨

💪 BUT TODAY, WE GOT STUCK INTO THE BIG TRANSFORMATION!

With permission to work throughout the day, the EnviroCentral team rolled up their sleeves and got to work:

🌱 Stripped back the grass to clear the ground
🌳 Removed self-seeded trees
✂️ Cut back the hedges
🌿 Cleared out the brambles

There’s still plenty more to do, but this is a brilliant step towards creating a space where the children can learn new skills, get closer to nature and watch their own garden grow. 🌻

❤️ The best part? We’re building this together, with the children at the heart of the project!

A huge thank you to everyone helping us bring this garden back to life. We’re looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together over the coming weeks!

🌧️🌿 WET, WINDY & WORKING HARD IN DODWORTH! 💪🍃

It was a wet and windy start for the EnviroCentral team today, but that didn’t stop us getting stuck in across the Dodworth Ward! 🌧️💚

🌳 First stop – High Street

We started in the green space at the end of High Street, spending 2.5 hours cutting back overgrowth and tall grass around the newly planted trees, alongside a litter pick to tidy up this large area.

✂️ Next up – Stafford Walk

We headed over to cut back the hedges and w**d the well-used footpaths leading to the fields behind Dodworth, making the routes clearer and easier for everyone to enjoy.

🐕 Finishing in Pilley

Our final stop was Pilley, where we cut back another well-used footpath leading to the dog field at the end of Silkstone Close, helping keep this popular route accessible for local residents and their four-legged friends.

👏 Rain or shine, the EnviroCentral team keeps going, tackling overgrowth, clearing paths and improving our local green spaces.

🧹 12 BAGS COLLECTED! 🗑️ | EnviroCentral on the Move

The EnviroCentral team got stuck in today, tackling two busy routes and leaving them looking much better! 💪🌿

🚶 First stop: Sheffield Road to Heelis Street
The team litter-picked 4 bags of rubbish, cut back the hedges, cleared fallen leaves and w**ded the paths, making the walkway cleaner, tidier and more welcoming for everyone.

🛣️ Next up: Doncaster Road
We then litter-picked all the way from Sheffield Road to the Cemetery Road junction at the traffic lights, collecting another 8 bags of waste! 👏

That’s 12 bags of rubbish collected in one day, helping keep our streets and walking routes clean, safe and looking their best.

💚 Another busy day making a difference and leaving the area better than we found it!

🌿 WORSBROUGH WARD: FINISHING THE WEEK ON A HIGH! 💪🍃

Friday saw the EnviroCentral team out and about in Worsbrough Ward, rolling up our sleeves and getting stuck into another day of environmental improvements!

🌱 West Street We kicked things off by clearing the nettles growing between the tyre shop and the new-build properties, tidying up the area for everyone passing by.

🌳 Hound Hill Next, we headed over to cut back around both road signs and tidy up the bench and grassed area, helping people make the most of the wonderful views! 👀🌄

🌿 Cope Street To finish the day, we worked our way from top to bottom, w**ding the street and leaving the area looking much tidier.

🌿 2 DAYS. 3 WARDS. LOADS DONE! 💪

That’s a wrap on our second and final day working alongside the Love Where You Live Team in the Aldham House area and what a busy couple of days! 👏

Today we’ve been getting stuck into:

🌳 Hudson Haven – widened the path, cut back low branches & cleared leaves
🌿 Fellows Walk – cleared w**ds & brambles from the car park
🗑️ Mont Walk – cleared the path & 2 bin stores, including one with a whole tree growing inside it! 🌳😂
🧹 Pearson Crescent – w**ded & litter picked the stairs area

And we didn’t stop there…

🚜 Oak Mill Park – delivered ½ tonne of soil for volunteers in Kingstone.

Then it was another ward jump into Central to clear the green waste left behind by volunteers at the Memorial Garden outside Morrisons. 🌿

💚 A HUGE thank you to all the volunteers who give up their own time to make a difference in their communities.

The work you do, often behind the scenes and in all weathers, makes a massive difference. We’re proud to be able to support you, clear up after the hard work you’ve put in, and help turn your ideas into real improvements.

🌧️ RAIN OR SHINE STAIRFOOT GETS A CLEAN-UP! 💪🌿

Today marked the first day of our two-day stint with Love Where You Live in the Stairfoot Ward — and while the weather certainly wasn’t on our side, it didn’t stop the team! ☔️

We started bright and early (just not very bright thanks to the rain! 😂) tackling the long pathway behind Hudson Haven.

The team:
🌿 Cut back all the overgrown hedges
🌱 Strimmed and w**ded the pathway
🧤 Gave the whole area a thorough litter pick

After that, we joined the Love Where You Live team and the Mayor for an area walk, looking at some of the local issues and discussing how we can continue working together to improve the area.

We then finished the day with another litter pick around the Aldham Estate, this time joined by the Mayor, collecting 7 bags of litter. 🗑️👏

A wet but very productive first day and we’re not finished yet!

We’ll be back tomorrow for another full day of environmental clean-ups across the Stairfoot Ward, working alongside Love Where You Live to keep making a difference. 💪🌿

🌿 DODWORTH PATHS GETTING SOME TLC! 🚶‍♂️

Today the EnviroCentral team have been busy in the Dodworth Ward, starting on South Street where we tackled some extremely tall grass on the plot of land that gives access to the back field.

It’s a popular walking route, so the team got stuck in with a litter pick and a full cut-back of the tall grass, making the route much easier to use again. 💪

We then moved across South Street to the entrance of the path that connects Barnsley Road to High Street. The team cut back one of the spurs leading off towards South Crescent, giving this well-used walking route some much-needed attention.

🌱 Weeds cleared

It’s all about keeping these well-used routes clear, accessible and looking their best for the people who use them every day.

🌿 A Busy Day in the Central Ward! 🌿

Today the EnviroCentral Team have been busy down at Swanee Pond, working alongside the local volunteers to give the area a good tidy-up.

The team:
🌳 Cut back all the paths around the pond
🌿 Removed 2 large bramble bushes
🌱 Cleared a banking of overgrown brush, getting it ready for some perennial bulb planting
🧤 Carried out w**ding and litter picking around the site

It was great to work alongside the volunteers and get the area looking its best for everyone who uses it. 👍

After Swanee Pond, the team headed over to Bluebell Bank to take a look at a low-hanging tree which is causing an issue for walkers.

Unfortunately, this isn’t something the EnviroCentral Team can safely deal with ourselves, so we’ve passed it on to the relevant service to assess the tree and decide on the appropriate action.

Another busy day working with the community and leaving the Central Ward better than we found it! 💪🌿
