🤖 The robots are here!

Robot deliveries are expanding across Old Town ward, with the whole ward now falling within the new delivery area.

Residents will be able to order from participating local businesses through Just Eat using Starship’s delivery robots.

We’re interested to hear what residents make of the expansion.

Would you use one? What do you think about them becoming a more familiar sight around Old Town?

🔗 We’ve put a link in the comments where you can enter your postcode to check whether your home is covered.

đźš® Hospital bin update

A small win - but one that really shouldn’t have needed chasing.

After residents raised concerns with us about the overflowing bin outside Barnsley Hospital, we followed it up with both the hospital and council.

The bin has now been removed. There are two council-maintained litter bins nearby, as well as recycling bins at the hospital entrance.

We’re pleased we’ve got a sensible outcome. Thanks to everyone who raised it with us - we’ll keep an eye on the nearby bins to make sure they’re coping with demand.

🌧️ Heavy rain expected across South Yorkshire 🌧️

Heavy rain is set to sweep across South Yorkshire today which may lead to localised flooding.

The ground is still very dry from the recent warm weather, making it difficult for rain to easily soak away.

A reminder of our top tips for flood safety:
- Never walk or drive through floodwater
- Regularly check the weather and flooding reports in your area
- Be prepared for potential evacuation

🥕 Another great selection at the Honeywell Good Food Pantry today!

The shelves were really well stocked, with everything from cupboard staples and toiletries to fresh fruit and veg, bread, eggs and chilled and frozen food.

It was lovely to see such a wide variety making its way into people’s baskets too.

🌍 Barnsley should not be going backwards on climate change.

Here in Old Town, protecting our environment and taking action on climate change is something we have believed in and championed for years.

That’s why we’re disappointed to see Barnsley’s Reform administration seeking to scrap the council’s Climate Emergency Declaration and its Zero40 and Zero45 targets, dismissing them as “ideological targets and costly political posturing”.

For us, this has never been about political posturing.

It’s about practical action: warmer homes and lower energy bills, cleaner air, protecting our communities from flooding and making sure Barnsley benefits from future investment and jobs.

Of course the council should scrutinise spending and make sure every pound delivers value. But we don’t need to abandon our environmental ambitions to do that.

Old Town has a proud record of taking these issues seriously. We believed in that before the change of administration, and we’ll continue to stand up for a cleaner, greener Barnsley now.
