The Barnstaple neighbourhood team have been responding to recent complaints around anti-social driving within the town centre.

We will be conducting additional focused patrols supported by our roads policing colleagues.

Any person found to be using a vehicle in an anti-social manner, risks their vehicle being seized by us under S59 of the Road Traffic Act in addition to being prosecuted for any traffic offences.

What has been happening in your area?

During the month of May 2026, officers, in the Barnstaple catchment area, responded to 592 logs.

This number is down 6.3% from the same period in 2025 including, but not limited to:

97 Concern for Welfare
31 Domestic related incident
36 Missing Persons
69 Reports of Violence
10 Criminal Damage
33 ASB
80 Highway disruptions/Road Offences (Not including speeding or RTC)
24 RTC
12 Sudden Deaths

149 people were detained at Barnstaple Police Station Custody Centre during this time.

A large proportion of police incidents are not crime related. Of those which were, some investigations can be progressed through out of court disposals such as Community Resolution, Individuals being reported, or by voluntary interview.

As well as responding to the 592 logs, officers also worked on file building for court, taking witness and victim statements, foot and vehicle patrols, booking in evidence, surveillance, executing warrants, attending court, attending training courses and inputting intelligence onto the system.

WANTED | Brian Jury, Newton Abbot

We are seeking information from the public to help trace 38-year-old Brian Jury who is wanted for breaching court bail in relation to an alleged assault.

Jury is described as a white male, approximately 5ft 9ins in height and of an average build with brown hair.

He has links to Bideford, Barnstaple and Newton Abbot.

Officers are making enquiries to locate Jury and are asking for the public to provide any information as to his whereabouts.

If you see him, please do not approach him and call 999 quoting 5026005132.

At least once a month, local Neighbourhood Officers will be at The HUB, in Green Lanes, where you can pop in and talk to some of the Team, get advice on crime prevention or reporting, and get to know some of the Team.

The next date is May 21st - 12pm-2pm

Whilst the dates are currently confirmed, they are subject to operational demand and may need to be changed. I will do my best to relay that information if and when it is required.

What has been happening in your area?

During the month of April 2026, officers, in the Barnstaple catchment area, responded to 508 logs.

This number is down 11.2% from the same period in 2025 including, but not limited to:

87 Concern for Welfare
21 Domestic related incident
41 Missing Persons
52 Reports of Violence
5 Criminal Damage
28 ASB
52 Highway disruptions/Road Offences (Not including speeding or RTC)
21 RTC
5 Sudden Deaths
