Barry Coastguard Rescue Team is made up of 11 Volunteer Coastguard Rescue Officers. The team is on permanent standby to respond to any incidents tasked by a Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Swansea. We are equipped to carry out coastal searches, cliff rescue and mud/water and on scene coordination of incidents. Her Majesty's Coastguard is responsible for the initiation and co-ordination of c

ivil maritime search and rescue within the United Kingdom search and rescue region. This includes mobilization, organisation and tasking of adequate resources to respond to persons in distress at sea, or to persons at risk or injury or death on cliffs or shoreline of the united kingdom.

09.01.26 at 1447hrs 📟🚨

HM Coastguard Chepstow were tasked to support South Wales Fire and Rescue Service and Welsh Ambulance Services University NHS Trust with an incident at Newport Docks.

Llantwit Major Coastguard and Barry Coastguards were also sent to the scene to provide additional Rope Rescue support.

Teams were stood down at 1715hrs

Cardiff Bay water temperatures are below 4°C and there is the risk of water freezing in the Bay and rivers overnight. Please do not enter the water or walk/play on ice even if it looks safe to do so. Stay out, stay safe, cold water shock can happen fast.

As 2025 draws to a close, we would like to wish everyone a very Happy and prosperous New year !!

It has been the busy year for Barry Island Coastguard, we have had record number of taskings, ranging from investigating objects, missing persons , Casualty care , cuts offs
And Working along side Barry Dock lifeboats
And RNLI lifeguards SW ( whitmore bay )
Successfully rescued , a summer of missing children,and a number of water based interventions in and around the resort of Barry island.
We also undertook our usual voluntary practice 
Full time officer sessions
Local patrols and PR events those that we managed to attend ( call outs depending) ..

2026 expected to be another busy year who knows what’s around the corner-but one thing remains certain- UK coastguard service will be there !!!
