We are pleased to confirm that the water supply to Old Basing Recreation Ground has now been fully restored.

The public toilets have reopened, and water supplies to the allotments, parish clubs, and other affected facilities are back to normal.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while South East Water worked to resolve the issue. We apologise again for any inconvenience caused.

Everything is now open and operating as normal.

Important Update

Unfortunately, a burst water pipe has resulted in a loss of water supply at Old Basing Recreation Ground.

Because of this, the public toilets are currently closed, and there is also no water available to the allotments, parish clubs, or other facilities in the area.

We are sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate everyone's understanding. South East Water is actively exploring the issue and working towards a solution.

We'll keep residents updated as soon as we know more.

We are saddened to hear of the vandalism at St Mary's Church this weekend, where a ball struck the historic East window, causing significant damage to irreplaceable stained glass.

St Mary's is an important part of our village heritage, and incidents like this place an unexpected financial burden on the church, despite already operating with a very tight budget.

We would like to remind everyone that the Old Basing Recreation Ground is the appropriate place for football and other ball games, where children and young people can play safely without risk to historic buildings or nearby property.

We kindly ask parents and carers to speak with their children about respecting community spaces and ensuring ball games take place at the Rec. By working together, we can help protect the places that mean so much to our community.

Last week, a dead oak tree at Old Basing Recreation Ground was felled and removed as part of our ongoing commitment to keeping our open spaces safe for everyone.

Although the tree was still standing, it had become extensively rotten inside, making it unsafe to leave in place. Unfortunately, its condition had deteriorated over time to the point where removal was the safest option.

The photo from July 2011 shows the oak in its former glory, standing proudly in the Recreation Ground.

Our accompanying video shows the felling process and reveals the extent of the decay hidden within the trunk. While it's always sad to lose a mature tree, public safety must remain our priority when managing the Parish's trees and green spaces.

We're also pleased to share that we are looking to plant two new trees at the Recreation Ground to continue investing in this much-loved green space. We'll be sharing more information about this in the coming weeks.

With the warm, dry conditions continuing please take extra care and stay vigilant. If you have children or young people at home, a quick reminder about the dangers of lighting fires and how fast they can spread in the current weather can make a real difference.
Thank you for helping keep our community safe.
