Great to see this positive progress on highways maintenance from Councillor Steve Forster.

Funding from Government leaves us short-changed in Hampshire, but Steve is fighting hard to ensure we get the best deal.

When the Government postponed plans for Local Government Reorganisation, we were clear. Local residents should not be left to pick up the tab for Labour's botched plans.

As Leader of the Conservative group at Hart District Council, Councillor Dr. Anne Crampton put forward a motion calling on the Government to reimburse Hart for the costs incurred as a result of Local Government Reorganisation which has now been paused, and possibly abandoned. The motion called for Hart to establish the full actual cost to date, whether it will proceed before any more money is spent and to reimburse Hart for costs incurred to date.

We are pleased that the motion was passed unanimously and the Council will now write to Government to ask for these costs to be reimbursed.

This isn't about the rights and wrongs of LGR or party politics but about fairness to Harts residents. Taxpayers should not have to foot the bill arising from a Government led process that has been withdrawn.

Today at Prime Minister’s Questions, Labour said they won’t fund our national security if it comes at the expense of social security.

This is shameful.

Without national security, there can be no social security.

Kemi Badenoch and the Conservatives have set out a fully costed plan to deliver investment in defence, while reducing the ballooning welfare bill.

CONFIRMED: Labour are the welfare party. 🥀

LGR Cancelled - Who Pays?

With the Labour Government having cancelled local government reorganisation at the 11th hour, Hart Conservatives are clear.

Residents should not be expected to pick up the tab.

Many thousands of pounds have been spent on a process which has now been paused by Government with no end date in sight.

Your Conservative councillors will present a motion to the next Hart Council meeting, instructing Council Officers to quantify the cost to date, and instructing the Leader of the Council to call on the government to reimburse all costs incurred on LGR to date.

Conservative Group Leader, Cllr Anne Crampton said:

“Council finances are under pressure and Labour’s botched reorganisation plans risk residents picking up the bill. We are calling on the Lib Dem Council Leader to write to Government and ask for a full reimbursement. Every pound spent on this process is a pound of taxpayers money that could have been spent on essential services, or not collected in the first place”

Great work from Hart South Police here, thank you for keeping our communities safe, and our high streets fair for all businesses.

An update on the situation in South Warnborough below 👇🏼

Our Police and Crime Commissioner Donna Jones for Mayor has recorded a video update for residents following close working with the Conservative councillors Cllr Chris Dorn, Councillor Steve Forster Councillor Dr. Anne Crampton and Cllr Stephen Highley.

We are doing all we can to ensure Hart District Council get a bayliffs order and implement full enforcement action as soon as possible.

Potential Traveller Incursion

Works have continued on site in South Warnborough despite a court order being served over the weekend. We understand that Committal proceedings will be started this week.

We also understand an application for 12 caravan pitches was put in on Friday. This flagrant disregard for the rules makes a mockery of the system.

The Lib Dem’s who run Hart District Council need to do better.

In neighbouring Basingstoke and Deane, the Conservatives implemented a district-wide injunction (26 square miles) against unauthorised encampments, giving the police sealed power of arrest.

The Lib Dem’s and CCH who run Hart have prevaricated and refused, leaving local residents with fewer defences against this unauthorised activity.

We will continue to fight to ensure the laws are upheld, and that rules are applied to everyone equally.

💷 MORE WELFARE SPENDING—BUT FEWER POWERS TO TACKLE FRAUD?

The Liberal Democrat MP for North East Hampshire, voted to abolish the two-child limit on Universal Credit—increasing welfare spending by allowing additional support for every child.

But when Parliament considered stronger powers to investigate welfare fraud, how did they vote?

❌ Our MP voted against them.

The proposed measures included requiring banks to identify accounts potentially linked to incorrect benefit payments, helping the authorities detect fraud and recover taxpayers’ money.

The principle should be straightforward:

People who genuinely need support must receive it.

But those who deliberately abuse the system must be identified and stopped.

You cannot keep demanding higher welfare spending while opposing stronger safeguards for the public money funding it.

More spending. Less scrutiny. The taxpayer picks up the bill.

North East Hampshire deserves an MP who protects vulnerable residents—and protects taxpayers from fraud.
