TACTICAL VOTING NWHants. I have been asked about tactical voting locally. My own preference is for a fair system of proportional representation rather than a first past the post which disenfranchises many voters. But we are where we are. Looking at the upcoming General Election I prefer to base any advice on actual election results rather than predicted numbers which are taken from national averages.

The facts for North West Hampshire are: in 2019 the Liberal Democrats came second. Across the constituency the latest local election results had Conservatives about 40%, Liberal Democrats about 30%, and none of the other parties hit the 10% level. Since 2019 the Liberal Democrats gained 9 borough councillors with Labour still stuck at 0. Labour itself has described North West Hampshire as a non-battleground seat.

Each party will put forward its own spin on polling data, but it is up to voters to make their mind up based on the facts.

It's official! Liberal Democrats are the tactical vote in if you want rid of this terrible Conservative Government.

All tactical voting websites have made a clear call and put Lib Dem candidate Alex Brewer For North East Hampshire only a fraction behind the Tories here.

We are asking people who normally vote Labour or Green to lend us their vote to make political history. It might make all the difference.

This petition already has lots of signatures, however it needs local people to add theirs. The more Basingstoke and Deane residents who make a noise, the better chance the Council Tories and our MPs will hear it and do something to stop this vandalism. We should be planting trees, not killing them.

Stop the destruction of 67 oak and 3 beech trees on Oakdown Farm warehouse site.

A Bridge too far?

Basingstoke and Deane Council have scrapped plans to replace the footbridge over the River Loddon in Eastrop Park. The scheme was announced and budgeted for over a year ago, however since then the Council have discovered it's not theirs!

It turns out the wooden bridge is owned by Hampshire County Council who have agreed to replace the bridge which has reached the end of its life.

Pole Axed?

A planning application for a 20m pole along the path to Eastrop Park has been refused. This news will be welcomed by residents who felt that not only would the 20m post be an eyesore, it came with 4 utility cabinets which are much lived by graffiti artists and then very much not maintained by the telecommunication companies who install them.

I am sure we will all want 5g connectivity, but there are better locations for the infrastructure that supports them than our favourite park.

It is understandable that many will have concerns about the Covid 19 Vaccine. Finding the facts , especially for those where English is not their first language, can be difficult. This website is well worth a visit. Details are presented really clearly and if you click on the flag you can toggle to other languages with ease.

The Shortest Consultation for a Long Awaited Scheme.

Hampshire County Council have launched a consultation on the final design for the long anticipated upgrade to increase capacity at Brighton Hill Roundabout. Normally you would be getting leaflets from your councillors or other community publications encouraging you to share your views. If not you would be talking to friends you meet at the shops or work etc which would raise awareness. With lockdown still in place these things are not happening. I along, with other Brighton Hill Councillors had hoped the consultation period would be extended so as many voices could be heard as possible, sadly this request has been refused.

The scheme maintains the original proposal to stop access to Brighton Hill Roundabout from Western Way, but has now removed the underpasses, something that was put forward initially and then revisited. You can have your say here

Lib Dems never lose their Focus!
We may have paused deliveries, but we are still getting stuff done in the background. Yesterday's daily exercise involved a zigzag run around Eastrop. I have asked the County Council to repair the pavement in Eastrop Way where there appears to be a whole in the ground which the pavement is sinking in to.
