Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council delivers a wide range of services people living and working in the borough. The borough of Basingstoke and Deane covers an area of over 245 square miles within northern Hampshire with a population of approximately 185,200 people. Our main service responsibilities include rubbish collection, recycling, leisure, parks, environmental health, economic development, housing and planning. There are 54 councillors elected by local people in 18 wards across the borough. Councillors have responsibility for strategic decisions, budget setting and performance monitoring. From community gardens to support groups, great local ideas often start small. Funding could help yours grow.

If your community or voluntary organisation delivers services, activities or facilities that benefit borough residents, our Councillor Community Grant Scheme 2026 could give your project a boost.

Each ward councillor has a pot of funding available to support local projects, with grants ranging from £250 to £2,000. Councillors can also combine their funding, meaning some projects may be eligible for grants of up to £3,000.

As part of the application process, you'll need to contact your ward councillor to discuss your idea and gain their support.

From maintaining sports pitches and caring for green spaces to helping keep streets looking their best, our operatives play an important role in creating places residents can enjoy and be proud of.

We're currently recruiting for:
🌱 Horticulture Operative
🏏 Sports Team Operative
🧹 Streetcare Operative

You'll need a full, clean driving licence and enjoy working outdoors as part of a team. Experience in horticulture or sports pitch management is welcomed and keen gardeners may find the horticulture role particularly appealing.

If you're planning to go away, leaving your beloved pet with a pet boarding service, make sure the provider is licensed.

Don’t rely on word of mouth, check the ‘Paws on the Doors’ website to confirm operators are legally licensed and to see their star rating.

The scheme covers:
🐶 dog breeders
🛖 kennels
🏡 home boarding
🏠 dog day care
🐱 catteries
🐴 horse riding establishments
🏪 pet shops

If you provide temporary pet care for payment (at home or elsewhere), you’ll need to speak to our licensing team.
Dog walking services only do not require a licence.

Looking for a Halloween half-term activity that's more treat than trick? 🕷️

For this week's , we're inviting you to join our Rangers and Natural Basingstoke for some frightfully fun Ready, Set, Ranger! sessions later this month, where children can discover some of nature's most mysterious wildlife, learn about the spookier side of the natural world and get creative with nature-inspired crafts.

Ready, Set, Ranger! is a free family activity programme designed to help children explore, learn about and enjoy local wildlife and green spaces through hands-on activities and outdoor adventures.

📅 Monday 26 October, 1pm to 3pm

Are you or is someone you know looking to improve balance and strength to avoid falls?

We’ve teamed up with County Council to deliver low cost, pay-as-you-go Steady and Strong Classes around the borough.

The classes have been developed for older adults to increase strength and balance, helping you to stay stronger for longer so that you can keep doing the things you love.

Classes are running at Fields Community Association Oakridge Timber Hall for All Brookvale Village Hall and Health & Fitness Centre

An estimated seven million Halloween costumes are thrown away every year. Now that IS scary!

With most costumes being made of synthetic material including plastic it's adding to our plastic consumption without us even realising. Why not ditch the plastic this year and try these more sustainable costume alternatives:

🎃 Use what you already have at home to make a costume
💀 Organise a costume swap with family and friends to bring last year's costumes back from the dead
👻 Visit local charity shops to find a costume instead of buying new
