🥈 International Success for Sophie!

A huge congratulations to Sophie W in 7DA1, who represented the Southern Region at her first international aerobic gymnastics competition at the Plovdiv Cup in Bulgaria!

Sophie finished 38th individually, 8th in her trio and took home silver in Aerodance! 🥈

🎖️ A proud moment for Combined Cadet Force - The Costello School! 🎖️

We are delighted to have received letters of recognition from Calvin Bailey MBE MP (Minister for Veterans and People) and Luke Murphy MP, following National Cadets Week.

Both letters recognise the outstanding contribution our cadets, staff and adult volunteers make to our local community and beyond. They celebrate the life-changing opportunities that the Cadet experience provides, helping young people develop confidence, leadership, teamwork, resilience and a sense of purpose.

We are particularly grateful that the dedication of our volunteers has been recognised. Their commitment, encouragement and countless hours of support make these opportunities possible for our cadets.

It is wonderful to see the positive impact of our unit acknowledged at such a high level and we are incredibly proud of everyone who makes our CCF community so special.

Our Year 8 girls gave it their all on the cross-country course, working exceptionally hard and showing fantastic determination from start to finish! 💪

🎯 RAF Cadets – Weapons Training Success! 🎯

Last Friday, our RAF cadets took on a gruelling six-hour weapons training session, an essential step in preparing them for future range days and tactical exercises.

Despite having completed a full week at school, our cadets remained focused, demonstrated great determination and worked hard throughout the session - and we’re delighted to report that every single cadet passed! 👏

A fantastic achievement and a testament to their commitment and hard work.

Well done to all our cadets, and a huge thank you to the instructors at Lord Wandsworth College for delivering the training and supporting our cadets.

💙 A huge thank you to St Mary's CE Junior School for such a warm welcome for Mr Harte and Miss Brooks at your parents’ evening last night! 🏫✨

It was an absolute pleasure to be there, support your wonderful school community and meet so many lovely prospective families. There’s something so special about making those first connections, answering questions and helping families feel excited about the next steps in their child’s journey 💫

We hope we managed to point everyone in the right direction (and apologise if we accidentally sent anyone on a little detour! 😂🗺️)

⚡🪙 WHO KNEW A HANDFUL OF 2p COINS AND SOME FOIL COULD PACK SUCH A POWERFUL PUNCH?! 🔋🧪

Our Separate Chemistry GCSE students have been having some electrifying fun exploring chemical cells and electrode potentials - and things got seriously exciting! 🤩

Armed with nothing more than 2p coins, foil and different electrolytes, our budding scientists set out to build their very own coin batteries. The challenge? Experiment, investigate and see who could generate the highest voltage! ⚡

And the results? Some students managed to produce a voltage comparable to that of a standard AA battery using their homemade stacks! 🤯👏

But this was so much more than a fun experiment. It was a brilliant demonstration of CHEMISTRY MEETS PHYSICS in action! 🧪⚡

🔬 The chemistry: Different metals and electrolytes help drive the reactions that transfer electrons and generate electrical energy.

⚡ The physics: Those electrons moving through an external circuit create an electric current

🧠 The science: Testing different electrolytes, comparing results and investigating what makes a battery more effective. Real experimental science at its best!

This is what makes science so exciting: taking ideas from the classroom, getting hands-on, testing theories and discovering just how much power can be hidden in the simplest everyday materials.

Huge credit to our GCSE chemists for their curiosity, creativity and competitive spirit! Who knew a stack of coins could spark so much scientific excitement? 🙌
