The countdown to The Jane Austen Festival 2026 has well and truly begun 👒🎩

The Grand Regency Costumed Promenade will be starting at the Royal Crescent on Saturday 12 September at 11am. Wristbands are required to take part, though watching the parade is free (and a sight not to be missed!)

The festival is the perfect excuse to dress up and explore our historic house and museum. No.1 has been decorated and furnished as it might have been during the period 1776-1796. The rooms feature historic furniture, pictures and objects that form the museum collection.

Museum tickets are available on the door, although we recommend booking online to secure your preferred date / time slot and avoid potential disappointment as it will be busy.

The shadows of leaves - but not as we know them...

We see a pretty spectacular Crescent every day here at No.1, but yesterday one member of our team saw thousands of them, mingling with the shadows of leaves as the moon crept across the sun.

Did you see any interesting light patterns during the eclipse?

Glenn Brown's Trees🌳🪾🍃

For Glenn Brown, the grotesque quality of trees originates from how the environment can batter and bend their branches and bark. Wind, rain, sun and frost transform a tree over time, shaping, marking and scarring it, mirroring the way a human body or face is weathered by the passage of time.

This natural distortion is further amplified by Brown’s hand. From a distance his trees appear encrusted in thick layers of paint, emphasising their gnarled and twisted anatomy. Yet, on closer inspection, they are carefully applied, complex layers of smooth sinews and delicate, swirling lines.

'The bodies and faces that I paint often look like battered trees where branches have been pulled off, where injuries have healed and scarred.'
Glenn Brown

📅 ‘Glenn Brown: Grottoesque’ at No.1 Royal Crescent is open Tuesday to Sunday, 10am-5pm, until 6 September 2026

🎟️ £7, or £2.50 when purchased alongside main museum entry. Book online or buy on the door https://no1royalcrescent.org.uk/exhibitions/

Exhibition visitors can also enjoy 15% off the counterpart exhibition at The Holburne Museum – simply show your No.1 ticket at the door.
