Just over a week until this years autumn town tidy, litter pick and recycling event!

Come along and make a positive difference in your local area. Whether you can spare an hour or stay for the whole event, your help is greatly appreciated.

Calling all Tree Huggers!

A walk and talk on the trees in Battle Cemetery – Saturday 24 October 2026 at 2pm which will last approx. 1.5hrs.

Cllr Jenny Exley will talk about why deciduous trees change colour and leaves fall off, and how pigments in the leaves affect their colour.

This informal talk will look at the trees special qualities, fruits and folklore including how does a tree draw down carbon and where do they store it?

Cllr Jenny Exley has a background in guiding people around Westonbirt - the National Arboretum, Wakehurst – Kew’s botanical garden as well as being a chartered landscape architect.

Whilst this is a free talk, we will be collecting on behalf of the Mayor’s charities and suggest a minimum £5 donation which will be collected at the end of the talk. Cash only please.

Often considered the Bard’s most popular history, Henry V follows the brave young King through some of the most pivotal years of 1400s England.

With assassination plots, disguises, drunken tavern brawls, love, loss, war, and a healthy dose of comedy, watch as King Henry leads the invasion of France and, against all-odds, wins The Battle of Agincourt.

Performance is indoors for this show, through the Abbot's Hall in The Duke's Library.
To attend the event, please enter through the iconic Abbey Gates onto the Battle Abbey Grounds.
No English Heritage fee will be required to enter to see the show but exploring the ruins and further battle grounds will
A bar with alcoholic, hot and soft drinks will be provided with homemade cakes.
Toilet facilities are available inside the building.
There are steps required to enter the auditorium inside.
Please park in Battle as parking is unavailable at the school for this event.

Our Mayor, Councillor Sue Burton, attended the Mayor of Eastbourne, Councillor Margaret Bannister’s Civic Service representing Battle Civil Parish on the 4th October.

The special event was held at the Emmanuel Church in the centre of Eastbourne.

Other local Mayors and deputy Mayors were present together other local representatives and members of the church.

This year’s Act of Remembrance to commemorate and honour those lost in conflict will take place on Wednesday 11 November 2026 on the Abbey Green, Battle High Street.

All members of our community are warmly invited to gather in reflection and gratitude for those who served and sacrificed. The ceremony will include readings, poetry and music, with contributions from local schools and representatives of the Council and Youth Forum.

Location: Abbey Green, Battle High Street

Programme
10:30am – Gathering on the Abbey Green

10:45am – Ceremony begins, featuring:
Readings and participation from local schools
Reflections by Council members and Youth Forum representatives

11:00am – Two‑minute silence
The silence will be marked by a maroon fired by the Battel Bonfire Boyes, followed by the Last Post played on a bugle. A second maroon will signal the end of the silence, followed by the Reveille.

This moving ceremony is an important moment for our community to come together in remembrance. We hope you will join us as we honour all those who have served.
