❓Did you know we have glow-worms in Beaconsfield?

Friends of Holtspur Bank (FOHB) host Bat and Glow-worm Walk – Friday 3rd July 2026

The Annual General Meeting for the Friends of Holtspur Bank Local Nature Reserve will be held on Friday 3rd July 2026 at 8.00pm in the lounge of St Thomas church hall, Mayflower Way, Holtspur, Beaconsfield HP9 1UF.

The AGM will be followed by the annual bat and glow-worm walk around the Holtspur Nature Reserve led by Derek Bourne. This is a great opportunity to see the nature reserve in the evening and see different wildlife to daylight hours. We recommend you wear stout shoes or boots and bring a torch.

Many of you will know that the walks are open to everyone, but, if you are not a member of the FOHB, you may be asked for a voluntary donation. However, family membership of the Friends is only £5 per year giving you free access for all your family to all of their walks, so you might consider this instead of making a separate donation for each walk you join.

Calling all bakers, makers and growers - you can help people who are homeless.

We need donated goods for our stand at the Beaconsfield Country Fayre on Bank Holiday Monday, 31 August.

Could you bake, grow, or make something for us to sell on the day?

We’d be delighted to accept homemade or home-grown donations, including:

Cakes, cookies, cupcakes, pies, and bakes
Bread and rolls
Jams, marmalade, honey
Allotment fruit or vegetables
Indoor or outdoor plants

Every item helps us raise vital funds.

You can drop your offerings at our office on Castle Street on Friday 28th August, bring them to the stall on the day at 10am, or we can collect from you. This can be arranged nearer the time.

Your local neighbourhood team will be at Beaconsfield Library today Wednesday, 24th June 2026 from 11:30AM – 12:30PM

Ask them for advice, report your concerns, or just pop in to see who is helping keep our town safe.

Come along, chat with your local neighbourhood team, pick up useful crime prevention advice and share any concerns or issues affecting your area. Whether it’s something you have witnessed, experienced or simply want to raise, we would really like to hear from you.

Bin collections will start earlier than usual for the rest of the week

Due to the continued hot weather, bin collections will start earlier than usual for the rest of the week. Please put your bins out the night before and leave them out until they have been emptied.

Our crews will be out making collections but will be taking more frequent breaks to prevent heat stress and exhaustion, so collections may be delayed or not completed.

Volunteer at Holtspur Nature Reserve

Join the Guardians of the Nature Reserve, the Friends of Holtspur Bank and the Butterfly Conservation, for ragwort pulling and dogwood control on the following dates:

Times: 10.00am until 13.00pm
Dates:
- Wednesday 29th July
- Tuesday 4th August
- Thursday 20th August

Friends meet in the reserve access off Riding Lane at 10:00 am and continue until 12:00 noon approx. We recommend that you wear sturdy footwear and leather/gardening gloves whilst working on the Reserve. We will supply the appropriate personal protective equipment if you use any of our power tools. We will not be providing refreshments, so please bring your own if you require them.

☀️ Extremely hot temperatures are forecast for this week and with that comes safety risks.

Deputy Chief Fire Officer Simon Tuffley shared; "We’re asking everyone to make safe choices over the coming days, particularly around open water, barbecues and dry open spaces. Small actions can have serious consequences in these conditions, but many incidents are entirely preventable if we all play our part. "

🌭 Planning a BBQ?
✅ Keep BBQs off grass and away from fences, sheds, and trees. Dry vegetation catches quickly, this means avoid barbecuing in parks, fields or woodlands.
✅Dispose of ashes from BBQs properly, they stay hot for hours.

🚜 Working on the land?
Farmers, please take extra care when using machinery in these conditions. Hot, dry vegetation can ignite easily, and sparks or heat from equipment can start fast spreading fires in open areas. Check your kit, clear debris, and stay alert.

Avoid setting bonfires in this heat, instead:
✅ Take rubbish to a household waste recycling centre or arrange a collection

➡️ The next Community Litter Pick is on Saturday 22nd August, meeting at 2pm at the Town Hall (all equipment provided!)

Beaconsfield’s 3rd Community Litter Pick of 2026 collected 16 bags of rubbish — that’s around 480 litres of litter off Beaconsfield’s pavements and green spaces! 🚯

On Saturday 20th June 2026, Mayor of Beaconsfield, Cllr Alex Dunlop, hosted this year’s third community litterpick, and perhaps most successful!
Town Councillors Cllr Hardvendel, Cllr Hashmi, Cllr Adali, Cllr Mason, and Cllr Howse were amongst those who volunteered on Saturday.

🚬 The most commonly collected item was ci******es.
According to Keep Britain Tidy– A cigarette butt contains more than 7,000 chemicals and does not biodegrade. Instead, it breaks down into microplastics, leaching toxins into soil and waterways and causing long-term harm to ecosystems.

A huge thank you to those who volunteered with us!

The litter pick is a regular event, running on the last Saturday of every other month (meeting point Town Hall Green, Penn Road HP9 2PP) and returns to the Town Hall, where tea & cake is provided for our volunteers.

The future dates for the event are:
