Bedford Town Centre's 1st Bedford Pride

Join us on Saturday 5th September in Harpur Square and Harpur Suite 1-8pm. And in the library 1-5pm. It's going to be fab!

Big thanks to Rainbow Bedfordshire and Barley Mow Bedford for all the work they have put into this event.

Final days! 🥳

Beach week ends Sunday 17th August at 4pm

It's been a really successful week in the sand and lots of fun has been had by all. If you haven't been, don't miss out!

Bedford Beach week is here - are you coming to join the fun?

The sun is out and the schools are on holiday. Bring the kids down to our fab free sandpit on Silver Square.

It's open 10-4 from 11-16 August, with a quiet hour every day 10-11.

We've got some deck chairs and bucket and spades but feel free to bring your own.

I was lucky enough to have a pre opening play in the sand, I can't resist building a sandcastle 💖

We'll also have free colouring in in the What's On opposite and of course there's always the library and the museums to visit in town too.

Hope to see you there.

Some residents have asked why we (Bedford Borough) have given planning permission to a data centre.

The planned location is not in Bedford Borough, but confusion has arisen as it is (relatively) close to the Universal site which is in Kempston Hardwick. We are directing people in the first instance to the Central Beds Council website (Central Bedfordshire Council Planning Pages) and to look up CB/22/03616/FULL where the application can be read in full.

Many thanks
A.

‼️Wixams Reserved Matters comments from residents is still open‼️

Please note the deadline for resident/public comments for the town centre reserved matters is 31st July - as communicated in the resident letters and on the planning portal.

I understand there has been a bit of confusion and I just wanted to clarify the date.

(The 28 July was for the statutory consultee deadline for submitting comments.)

Below is a screenshot of one of the RM applications on the BBC website to show where the deadline date is.

Please do not miss your opportunity to have your say.

Early morning drive about this morning...

Reported flytipping around the bin in the lay by and the bin further down towards BCA.

And continuing talks and pressure with officers re the G&T site.
Stewartby and Kempston Hardwick Parish Council chair Lee Melville and myself work closely with BBC officers on this site.

Lots of action has already been taken, but as it often is, it's not always visible to the outside eye. But it's certainly something we are working to improve for the local area and for those living there too.

(I wasn't driving, my daughter was. I took the photo 📸)

🦺ACT NOW - Planning Appeal for the 375 homes in Wixams South. 🦺

The opportunity to comment on this appeal closes on Monday 27th July at 23.59

Comments made on the original application won't be read by the Planning Inspector. You need to comment under the new appeal
number.

You can comment with support or concerns.

Most I have spoke to have concerns, and actually Bedford Borough Planning have already refused it hence why it's come to
appeal.

Concerns include
Entry/exit onto A6 - traffic pressure. And, no road access into
Wixams itself from the site, forcing all onto A6.
Infrastructure pressures - GP, dentists, schools
Lack of public transport links

We know we need housing, but we need the right housing with the appropriate infrastructure around it.

We are aware that the majority of today’s scheduled bin collections have been completed, however, the team have been unable to collect a small number of food waste bins surrounding the Beatrice Street area of Kempston and surrounding the Gloucester Road area in Cauldwell.
There were also a small number of black household waste bins in Stewartby that they were unable to collect.
The team is doing everything they can to create an extra route tomorrow to get these collected as quickly as possible. If there are any bins that can’t be collected tomorrow, they will be picked up on Monday. If you have been affected, please leave your bins out in their usual place for collection.
Bins showing as “scheduled” at www.bedford.gov.uk/Bins will be collected. However, if a collection is showing as “collected” but has not been emptied, please report it as a missed bin on the calendar. A crew will then be targeted to return within two working days (Monday to Friday), from midnight of the day the report is made.
Thank you for your patience and understanding while we work to catch up.
