Thank you to Social Security Scotland for delivering a session for us today, and to all who took time out to join us.

Social Security Scotland provides financial support for unpaid carers in Scotland, including Carer Support Payment, Scottish Carer Supplement and Carer Additional Person Payment.

For money guidance practitioners, knowing about these payments can help carers check what support they may be entitled to and take the next step towards applying.

Find information about these payments as well as guidance and resources on their website www.socialsecurity.gov.scot

💙 Carers Week 2026 is an important opportunity to recognise the vital contribution of unpaid carers across Scotland and to reflect on how we can better support their financial wellbeing.

This week we're highlighting some of the organisations and vital sources of support available to carers. First up are Scotland's local councils.

Local councils play a key role in supporting unpaid carers. In Scotland, unpaid carers have the right to request an Adult Carer Support Plan or, for young carers, a Young Carer Statement. These plans help identify how caring affects someone’s life and what support may help them continue caring while protecting their own wellbeing.

Signposting carers to their local council or local carer support service can be an important first step, especially where caring is affecting someone’s income, work, health or day-to-day life.

Today is World Autism Awareness Day 💙

It’s a good time to remember that good money guidance should always be accessible.

For autistic people, money conversations can sometimes feel overwhelming, but small changes can make a big difference:

💬 Keep language clear and simple
🧩 Take things step by step
⏳ Allow extra time
📝 Offer written information
👀 Be aware of the environment

Accessibility helps everyone feel more confident and supported.

Shout out to the amazing organisations across Scotland making a difference for autistic people and their families, including Scottish Autism and National Autistic Society Scotland.

It’s the start of Stress Awareness Month 💙

Supporting others — especially with money worries or difficult situations — can be rewarding, but it can also be stressful. Taking a bit of time now to plan how you’ll look after your wellbeing can really help.

You might want to think about:

What’s coming up over the next few months?
Where things might feel busy or challenging
When you can take breaks or have time to reflect?
Who you can talk to if you need support?
What help or services you can signpost people to?

Take a moment to pause, think and plan ahead. Even small steps can make a big difference.

Let’s look after ourselves as well as the people we support 💙

💬 Money Matters Friday's money guidance tip:

Support people to plan for the next pressure point, not the perfect month.
Focusing on the next bill, event, or trigger is more achievable — and more protective — than long-term budgeting alone.
