Important changes at the Borough Tip!

Bedford Borough Council is introducing a free online vehicle registration system at the Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC) on Barkers Lane to protect the site from misuse by businesses and people from outside the Borough.

From Thursday, 1 October, residents using the HWRC for household waste will need to register their vehicle's number plate online. Further details can be found online here :-

🌿Respite is coming back – and we have a name! 🌿

We’re delighted to introduce The Rowan Club, our paid respite service returning to Bedford every Friday from October.

We’ve been listening, learning and planning, taking everything we learned from our first pilot and what carers told us they wanted more of.
The name itself was shaped by people who used our respite service and reflects what they wanted it to be – warm and welcoming, friendly and sociable, active and interesting.

Bedfordshire Police are encouraging the public to have their say at an event at Brickhill Drive Shops on Tuesday 25th August at 11am. This community meeting allows you to raise any concerns and to find out what they are doing to tackle the issues that matter to you.

• If you feel that the activity is a repeat of the current behaviours - ie with persons camping in the area through choice - please use the 'Report anti-social behaviour (ASB)' option on the Community Safety page on the Borough Council website.
If you scroll to the bottom there is a ‘How to report anti-social behaviour to the Community Safety Team’ section with a quick online tool.

They will then use the details in your report to task the ASB officers to attend and investigate. All cases are recorded on their in-house system which allows them to track the activity and can be used as evidence should it be needed for a breach of an injunction

Police Notice

The PCC for Bedfordshire is asking residents to take part in a survey to help improve support services for victims of crime across the county.

The PCC is keen to hear from as many people as possible, whether they reported the incident to the police or chose not to. Responses will help identify what is working well, where improvements are needed and how agencies can better support victims throughout their journey.

Please be aware of the potential presence of blue-green algae in the lake at Bedford Park.

Blue-green algae can be harmful to both people and animals. We strongly recommend that you do not enter the water and keep pets away too.

To avoid the risk of poisoning, please keep your dog on a lead and away from the lake's edge. Symptoms of blue-green algae poisoning in dogs include vomiting, diarrhoea, disorientation, seizures, drooling, twitching and weakness. If you think your dog may have been poisoned by blue-green algae, please contact your vet immediately.

Warning signs are planned to be posted around the location, and we will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates with any changes.

We have reported this to the Environment Agency who will check oxygen levels in the lake at Bedford Park and look at opportunities to resolve the issue.

Blue-green algae naturally occurs in small amounts in many bodies of water, and certain conditions can cause them to bloom rapidly. Hot, dry weather with little wind or rain creates ideal conditions for algae growth.

Unfortunately, there is no easy solution to eliminating blue-green algae once a bloom has started.

Long-term solutions often involve managing nutrient levels entering the water, such as fertilisers from surrounding land.
