When I attended last year's public meeting with EWR the council headed by Mohammad yassin showed very little if not weak opposition to the project, a couple of green party councillors aired their concerns but that was about it. EWR made it quite clear that the project was going ahead and had been put before every prime minister since Boris Johnson. I'm quite sure that any home owners who refuse to sell their property to EWR will be slapped with a Compulsory Purchase Order (I work in construction and I've seen CPOs used many times). Basically the large rail company is bullying the people because it can.

It tells East West Rail it "cannot support" homes or businesses being destroyed.

This is terrible, I've visited Roise court and spoken to many of the residents, these social housing placements are hard to come by and should be given back when no longer needed so that someone else in need can be housed. We are in a housing crisis and not only did this person hold on to a flat they didn't need he also claimed benefits for it fraudulently.

A man failed to declare he no longer lived at his social housing property and continued to falsely claim council payments.

Well if anyone in social housing or on a waiting list is satisfied they may be surprised by this, I'm sure personal issues are a main part of her standing down but let's be honest, if you were doing that job and had to try and convince someone in social housing in the greyfriars ward that they're housing was up to standard with a straight face you'd struggle.

The councillor, who was portfolio holder for housing and regulatory services, said she needed to focus on personal commitments after three years in the role.

If this can happen in brickhill it can happen anywhere in Bedford, please be vigilant and report any suspicious activity near your home, knife and weapons related crime are becoming a far too regular occurrence, NHPUK campaign for automatic stuff prison sentences for the possession of dangerous weapons and the reimplantation of stop and search, Bedford police have done a great job with the use of facial recognition cameras but stop and search would be a great help in preventing a lot of weapons related crime.

Police are appealing for information after three men forced entry to a Bedford home and threatened a family with a knife before fleeing...

As if 10k a year for attending a dozen meetings a year isn't enough they have allowances/expenses as well.
Most if not all of them have well paid jobs outside of the council so with an 10k on top why would they be entitled to anything else?

A proposed £100,000 saving linked to councillors’ allowances was removed from Bedford Borough Council’s final 2026/27 budget after...
